It looks like some kind of wrasse to me. I am unsure of just what species though.

I'm sure someone will know exactly.

Wind was blowing harder than forecast so couldn’t paddle to cockle grounds and still learning the area so didn’t really know were to go so stayed in close around the red cliffs and played with the new sounder.

Yeah, it's a type of wrasse but not sure which one. Pretty common in the Bay.

Did the sounder help much ?

Yep, either a type of wrasse, tuskfish or pigfish.

Gunther’s wrasse. Grow to about 20cm. Don’t put one in a fish tank - they beat the hell out of other fish!

It was great for finding structure and knowing depths. I’m not great at reading/using them might need a lesson

Yea it’s a chocolate wrasse but most people call em gunthers wrasse like the other members did already said. And  yeah there quite aggressive as Benno 573 said
