Female Gc Newbie - Loving It!

Man it has been a long time Hope everyone us doing well. Anyway...

Kat - my hot tip for catching bream at any of the GC canals and even the shallows around the bay is bring with you the cheapest loaf of white bread. Break them into half a thumb sized pieces and one piece at a time, throw them out in a little cluster. Start with a slice or 2. If on the canals, keep them within 1-2m of the edge.

Have a hook tied on with some of the soft white bread threaded on. The bread size should be similar size to what you have been throwing out. A little bigger is ok. Do not put a sinker on your line.

Watch the bread bob along and generally within seconds or a minute or 2, you will see the bream come up and start to eat the bread from the surface. Just sneak up close and lob your line in right where they are. If you get it right on them and dont alert them to your presence, they will smash it immediately. If not, let it go as naturally as possible. It needs to look just like the others floating nearby.

This trick will only work a few times at the same spot. You'll spook the fish after a few goes and will need to either move spots or give them a good rest for up to 15/20min.

But do this with patience and a bit of tactics and you will nail those beast bream.

We call this the breadx-40. The old boys here might know the reference

+1 for bread and bream. I have fed the family plenty of times using bread. If they spook and go off the bite you can persist and use small pieces and a small hook.

Once when fishing the river, (we were on a family trip, and I sneaked my telescopic rod into my backpack), I berleyed up near the mangroves. I thought they were just little toadfish, until on my last piece up came a 30cm odd bream. (This was near the Botanic Gardens by the way).

Nice one mate. I have done lots of different types of fishing but still love my bream fishing.
