queensland Spot X At Mud 5/10/20 Morning Session

@shaun1800 and I headed out at gentleman's hours from a very busy Port of Brisbane ramp this morning. Conditions were great and better than forecast. We arrived at spot x and deployed our lines, with Shaun opening the account with an unders squire. This was the theme for the day with grassies, squire, bream, tuskies and a fantail leatherjacket.

In amongst them were two decent hookups and one capture. Shaun, who was playing on 4lb line, locked horns with what we thought was going to be a snapper or mack. He played it like a champ and patiently brought it to the boat after some very good runs. I slipped the net under what turned out to be one of those clean silvery bay catfish. Disappointed, Shaun declined the offer of a photo, feeling a little deflated after the promising start.

About 15 minutes prior to this my 15lb setup got absolutely smashed. It reefed me before I could tighten the drag right up. I'm suspecting it was a good snap and was disappointed to wind in a roughed up leader.

So, tonight I'm heading back for the high tide to have another go with heavier gear. Who knows, I might be able to get my hook back.

Forgot to mention that Shaun got a 44cm flatty that we released as I had a seniors moment and said legal was 45cm.

Also, there will be no report of the night session as it was very poo. Even stayed an extra hour trying to entice a bite from other spot x's. They should probably be called ex - spots.

I've only put 80 hours on it since I got it at the end of May. If only there were more good weather days.

I see you’ve got the grinners hooked on smoking now too, you must be a bad influence on them, and that’s a master stroke disguising blatant sabotage, as a “senior moment”, hahaha, poor Shaun, taking a tasty meal off him like that, I’m now wondering just how low you’ll go

Hey Brian

Shame about the lack of fish over those two sessions, but like you always tell me in the BR sessions that are bad your persistence will surely pay off! I reckon it's a pity that you didn't get rewarded on a good snapper.

Good job to Shaun for playing a catty on 4lb - that would sure be some fun. Bummer about the flatty realisation - it will be out there next time. 

Two questions though, have you been keeping record of the time, and was Spot X the spot where Kat, Steve, you, and me all went out to?

Just a heads up Brian, there’s been reports of grinners going from boat to boat hitting the punters up asking for a spare durrie, I’ll be sticking to landbased until it calms down a bit

Soak a cuppla baits. After the other day's results I may have a pillie under a float as well. Sit back, listen to some music and visualise my bait getting monstered. Might do some live AFO reporting. haha

Nah, she would’ve cost too much to revive her, I went to the disco with some cheesy pick up lines and have picked up another, should be ready by Friday I’m hoping, it’s been painful seeing this lull in the weather and not being able to go out

That's a whole lot more hours than I've put on mine Brian .  Yes did plenty of gentleman's hours fishing at Noosa but pretty quiet overall. Will do a quick report sometime this week - trying to get on top of some work after a busy holiday. 

Your unsuccessful night session at Mud reminds me of MANY similar sessions I used to have out there .........

It was 4lb braid with 8lb mono leader, but  yeah when it first took off I thought I was no chance of getting it up, particularly after Ellie got reefed. But gradually I began to make ground on it...all the while imagining a big snapper coming to the surface and the stories I'd tell my grand kids about how I pulled this monster from the depths on 4lb....

So yes, needless to say when I realised it was a catty I was a tad deflated. That said it gave me a very enjoyable fight and I was happy to get him up.

Well, @Another Wazza and I hit up spot x today and had a good time despite not landing anything worth keeping, with a lot of unders. Wazza got snipped at one stage and I had my hopes up the mackerel might come on the chew. It wasn't to be.

Conditions were a little blowy early but settled down as the day went on.

The pursuit of a better spot x will go on.

Bugger! You will find a good Spot X that ALWAYS produced one day Brian!
