See on the news their talking about closing the West End brewery in SA.

Remember when the beer strikes were on in the 70's what a terrible drink that

stuff was. If it closes that'll be worth a shout.

Are you trying to give us nightmares, @Angry51? There were some bad beers coming into Queensland during that strike. Remember Southwark and KB kegs. Tasted like chook feathers. And then there were the price hikes and we all vowed to give up beer if it went to $1 a pot. Dark days indeed.

Pots under $1? No wonder you Boomers all own multiple houses!

Showing my age here...back in uni days the cheapest we had $1.50 pots and $5 jugs of XXXX (regular prices were $2pots and $8 jugs). Only problem was that they were on Sunday night.

Given that the average wage back then was probably about $80 a week, later generations probably don’t do it too tough in the beer price stakes. My first home was about 5 times my annual salary, and most families were one income back then, so proportionally probably not really any more affordable than today. Just different demands and expectations.

Remember cigs were 65cents a pack of 25's and beer was 8$a carton and we were

all going to give up smoking and drinking if they got to $1 and $10 each.

Those were the days.

Forgot to mention that interest rate on our first mortgage was 14.25%. Hope we never go back to that again although a higher interest rate on the super investments would be welcome.

I reckon I'd still be smoking if I could afford it. 

Probably be dead but I did enjoy my ciggie.

I was not privy to 65 cents, but a pack of winny blues was $1.85. 

You could get a 50g pack of your desired mix, 2 packs of tally ho's and a lighter for $4.95.

A carton of xxxx draught was $15.95 at mark down liquor, or if it was a big night a bottle of Bundy and 2 x 1ltr coke bottles.

The first house my wife and I bought together, the interest rate was 17%.

when I first started  drinking at Miles a small beer was one shilling I gave up smoking when a packet of rothmans went to 5 shillings.  At that time a gallon of petrol,a bottle of beer ( Tally no stubbies then) and a packet of smokes were all 3 and 6.

I reckon when you are as old as some of the people in the forum you will be talking about stuff like. 

Remember when you could get a house in Brisbane for under $2m and fuel was under $2 per ltr!

We used to flush our toilets and water our lawns with drinking water! 

I remember when I didn't have a computer chip in my head.
