queensland Top Water Tailor On Fraser

Hi all recently returned from an epic week long camping trip on Fraser Island. Headed up there last Saturday with Damo (forgot his user name) his dad and a few of his mates. With the wind forecast to be blowing from the east/southeast all week the call was made to setup camp on the very northern side of Fraser providing great protection from the wind.

was pretty bloody tough waking up to this every morning for seven days straight!!

We were pretty blessed on the fishing front we lost count of just how many tailor we caught not to mention plenty of whiting too. our days were spent driving the northern beach sight casing to schools of fish. With the majority of fish nailed on poppers. I havnt done a great deal of tailor fishing or beach fishing in general so had planned on taking mostly slugs. Luckily I listened to Damo who told me to pack surface lures. So I dug up this old faithful who hadn’t made an appearance since nailing black and spot tail bass in png with @Do$tylz and @Angusfish after fish were caught on poppers and was great to see so many visual strikes. Especially when you see a lone fish leave the Saftey of the school and scoot four or five metres from the pack to smash our offerings. Also caught fish on slugs hardbodies and the humble pilly but the popper was the most effective. Between catching bulk fish sinking bulk beers and daily feeds of fresh fish and bbq could not have asked for a better trip. High lites for me were getting my pb tailor at 58cm on surface. Seeing heaps of turtles resting and walking up the beach. And trying queenfish sushimi. Any ways I’ll let the pics tell the story from here enjoy!

Looks like a great trip was had. Looks like it paid off heading the extra miles.

Well done on the pb. Never sight cast for them before, they must have been some big schools.

No the funny thing was the were only very small patches, I think this was just the remenance of what had been flogged for the past few months. The thing was the water was so flat and clear and they were only in about 2 metres of water. If were were in the surf there’s no way we would have spotted them. We thought they were bait balls initially

Cracking trip man. Looks absolutely amazing in terms of weather, location and crew too. Can't go past topwater for being the most enjoyable method of fishing.

Amazing to be able to witness turtle nesting season too!

Yeh cheers man it was so good. We seen six or seven Spanish cruising the flats but unfortunately never had my big rod handy at the right moment. Did Look a bit out of place with all the tailor fishos Along the beach when I started launching 180 mm stickbaits on the dogfight tho

Awesome job - that is a haul I could only dream of (and after seeing those great photos probably will, Lol). 

Shame you didn't manage a Spanish but I'm sure everything else counts for it. @Kat, Fraser is certainly on my bucket list too. I can't wait until I'm old enough to get my first fourby and take it on a good trip fishing up there

Yeah but they woulda been hella jelly over the dogfight (new one or old model?) and the topwater action. Alvey and pillies on gang hooks vs dogfight and topwater? no competition

Yeah mate just wish I hooked up. It’s the old model 7000h. Got it this year completely unused from a collector at a Really good price.

Sensational trip and photos there @jon - got a few of us jealous no doubt!!  Good decision to camp where you did - looks awesome!!  Nice work on the variety of fish too - would have been eating like a king.

Nah nagala itself was fine just the people who were using it, not so much. Seen quite a few people who need to get some new tyre de flation gauges I reckon

We will be on the western beaches but will try and look for some schools. Hopefully the spotties will be in and we can get a few past the sharks. 

Cracking trip mate. Nothing beets sight casting to fish with topwater lures!
