Best Budget Kayak Battery

G'day all. I have recently bought myself a Viking espri. It's been a great yak but I would love to get a sounder for it. I know a fair bit about the sounder side of it but not about the battery. Does anyone know any good battery's for the kayak that are under $100. Thanks

You can pick up plenty of suitable sized batteries from Supercheap for under $100

My dad and I have a battery for the sounder which fits ours pretty good, I'll get him to tell you what it is though  

You may also want to figure a method of mounting it. He can tell you our way too. Lol.

JayCar have lithium ones 7.5 AH for $70.

Two great things about lithium

 

1. It's light

2. You can run them right down without wrecking them

Thanks guys. Would that sort of battery be suited for marine and is it ok to get wet or would I need to get a waterproof battery box for it? And also, whats a good sounder. I was looking into getting the Lowrance hook 2 but what's a good sounder under about $150, thanks.

The other thing about lithium batteries from what I have heard is that they need a charger with a Lithium profile to charge them properly.

If you're fishing saltwater I'd recommend a box, but if just for the fresh it's probably not that important.

Can't help with the sounder question, except to say have a look at the secondhand market - ebay/gumtree etc

Yep, agree ellicat. Even if it's just a tupperware container to keep the battery dry!

Yep, a tupperware container works perfectly. Just drill small holes to run the wires through - I cut some foam and glued it to the bottom of my hull (inside the hatch) and put the box inside that. Stops it moving around. 

For the transducer you can either just glue it to the bottom of the hull (inside the hatch) or cut a hole in some foam so that your transducer fits snuggly inside it and glue this piece of foam inside the bottom of the hull. Then just pour some water in the hole before squeezing the transducer in. 

Not sure on good buys for cheap sounders but if you do some research you should pick up something decent. What fishing are you going to do with it?

FPV Power kayak battery... was a no brainer choice for me in my Stealth Profisha. 17.5ah at only 915g and is waterproof. Stoked with it! 

Edit: yes it's $230 but a case of getting what you pay for I reckon
