Gonna be honest I’ve never tried it but I can tell you now it’s gonna be a lot better then putting it into a ziplock bag . Theoretically you probably wouldn’t even have to freeze it could possibly last years in just a fridge the reason for this is that 02 or oxygen causes things to rot or age for example a exposed apple will go brown but if it’s vacuum sealed it won’t because there is no oxygen to age it and this is also the reason canned food lasts years . Tuna cans that are years old even 8 year old tuna cans are still completely safe to consume due to the fact their is no oxgen within the can so it doesn’t go off . So you’re probably better off just putting it in a fridge even though I don’t think it would get burns I think it will keep the bait in a better condition

It's doing my head in , I've used cling wrap inside snap lock bags it still gets freezer burn I hate putting perfect baits through the blender

Aldi run a special a couple of times per year where you can pick one up for $49 (I think). Once you get one you will find lots of uses for it. I like the smokey bacon from the butcher at Tairo so buy a bulk pack if we are passing through and then cryovac it in meal portions for the freezer. You can make freezer bags for 6 pack Eskies. Possibilities are endless. I even cryovacced a spare primer bulb and fuel line for the outboard to keep out dust and water. You won’t look back.

Yep Tairo meats has some great stuff in there , are they easy to use ? I'm a bit of a dumb arse with technology.  I might actually target some garfish once I work out how to use it. Not many fish will turn their noses up at a full gar without freezer burn

Nice one Sneaky, I’ve found that most if my baits with air sucked out if them in ziplock bags don’t get freezer burn but then again I use most if my baits in a week or so.
I will need one of these to preserve bully baits. I got five this arvo!!!
Cheers Hamish

Cheers! I sure hope so Sneaky! (To be honest, they are a pain to handle and net solo as they go berserk when you slip the net under them. Haha)

In fact, my dad has been pushing me to send a report to the magazines so I could possibly do that! 🙂 👍

It won’t burn at all. I freeze all the bait I castnet and they work well. Herring go a bit soft but still are usable. I don’t properly vacuum seal them and they are still fresh after 3 months.

All my bait seems to get it after 6 weeks

Thanks a lot Sneaky. I don't think I'll be gaffing any sharks soon either - I prefer releasing!

Yeah, I’m normally catch and release.
I’m planning on keeping one this holidays and cooking it on the fire in case it goes wrong and everything starts smelling of ammonia (quick disposal 🤣)

  • 1 month later...

I killed my first vacuum sealer , but got my wife to grab one from k mart this one works pretty well . Thawed out a pack today and used it in the passage, was very impressed normally after I thaw frozen Mac tuna it goes a bit weird and the parts the hook goes through flake off but it didn't do it this time. (Some vac sealed goodies)20210103_223023.thumb.jpg.b4e353803e3e3f9e074e3d712da1b599.jpg
