Hi all,

decided to brave the Xmas crowds and took the family camping up at cooloola. Headed up on Tuesday, found a nice spot and set up camp. Wednesday morning dawned still and sunny, we quickly had breakfast and headed over to the lagoon area on the rainbow beach side of DIP.

i knew it was going to be busy but faaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrr out. There was 163,214 4wd’s already set up along the lagoon edge so we went about 1.5km along the beach and found some nice gutters with no other cars in sight. 1DDF18CB-1192-47BA-B0CC-0F430C1C2147.thumb.jpeg.2e5b1bd0f99fae49ac822362a8b17cd9.jpeg

tooks bubs for a swim then had a flick in the gutters, third cast this happened

given bubs loves fish, this one was destined for the dinner table. More swims and relaxing and then back to camp.

thursday we went for a tour and took in Carlo sandblow, searys creek and most importantly Ed’s beach bakery at rainbow beach who do great pies and the worlds best custard tart. Goodbye $30, hello diabetes/cholesterol... 😂

we snuck around to the lagoon on Thursday arvo and on the first cast I landed a 44cm flattie that was released for next time.

from there the weather continued to get worse, winds gusting to 40kn and squally showers. So we packed up on Friday morning and headed home. Enjoyed checking out the carnage along the beach on the way back, gazebos in every state of disrepair, tents that seemed a lot flatter than normal and a shower tent half way up a tree.

Just off the beach actually mate. Didn’t take the yak up this time. Would have loved to have it there after watching birds and bust ups about 200m off the beach... 😣

Bummer , that would have been torture to watch .

Yeah, the campground is great when it is super windy. You hear it in the tree tops but it hardly makes a ripple in the tarp. Can’t drive to the lighthouse, about a 2km walk from the beach I think. Great fishing from certain parts of the headland too. None of the 4WDing up there is difficult - get the tyre pressures right and just plod on through. The 40psi “full send” club is rampant up there so the beach exits particularly get chopped up a bit. The Mrs had to drive one day not long after high tide coz someone had a decent lunchtime bourbon and she didn’t even come close to getting stuck. She certainly loved driving past two people who were though. 😂
