Whatever happened yesterday on the fishing front, we sure had a better one than these guys.

Can only imagine they didn't have a safety chain and their winch line let go.

That would put a dampener on the day for sure.

I witnessed a steel cable snap at the private boat ramp on the Logan a while back now, made a very interesting noise before letting go, safety chain wasn’t hooked up either, it was a decent sized fibreglass half cab, the owner wasn’t too concerned about his daughter on the bow, who had well and truly soiled herself, his main concern was wether he had trimmed up the outboard.

A crane arrived to pick it up when we were launching. It is a govt vessel so someone will have some paperwork to do.

Ouch!! Were they backing it down the ramp or pulling it back out @ellicat?    Have seen it happen before when they unhook the safety chain and cable BEFORE backing it down (why I don't know!!!). If the latter than my guess would be they forgot to attach the safety chain (unlikely that it doesn't have one) and then either the safety chain snapped OR they hadn't clicked the winch into position to activate it (meaning it just unravelled/free-spooled as they pulled up the ramp. Either way - not a great outcome!!

It was 5am so I'd assume they were putting in (especially if it's government haha).

Gee I hope their super funds weren’t damaged in the accident!

Doesn’t look like any of the boats I know - we have to have boats built to survey which means they are almost always aluminium.

 Will get off my shiny bum and put my nose to the ground and ask around on Tuesday (RDO Monday )

Seen it happen more than once, 2 people one hops into the boat ready to start motor undo everything back down gently and small jab on brakes and off it slides. Works well until person backing down goes crosseyed hits the brakes and viola premature ejection withoutt he viagra. Should imagine More damage on the dry launch than on the retrieve but would be hard work with a manual winch pulling dead weight. Lucky he had the motor trimmed up. Be easier to wait for the tide to come in if he could stand the embarrassment.

I think @Drop Beartook a photo which might show what the logo was? I didn’t take a lot of notice at the time but it may have been an anchor logo?

Makes sense, she’s pretty well anchored to the ramp, can’t see her drifting off in a hurry

Doesn’t sound like the state gov logo. Ps my last day out on the work boat to replace 2 FADs we were at the ramp at 3am and back at 6pm. 120nm for 270L. All to improve rec fishers’ fishing experience

I've cut the people out of the photo, but they were quite a mottley looking crew that didn't look like government types in my mind, but who knows.

Come on, be truthful now, just how many of those 15hrs were spent fishing / testing that the FADS you replaced were working properly again, Hahahaha!

The thing about replacing missing FADs is....they don’t have schools of dollies under them when they’re in the boat

Doesnt stop ppl from fishing them as we deploy them but! Ha!
