Diving is a blight on football but is now a cardable offence and with the advent of VAR has declined.

One of the clips shows an advert for BETAmax which really dates it.

My family moved a lot when I was young and I attended schools where there was only one code. At one there was no choice but to pay ‘Victorian Rules’ as it was known then, union at another, league elsewhere and football at another. I played all of them and the best game is football.

There is far more skill in football because ball control is limited to the feet [rugby codes should be more accurately advertised as a form of handball, rather than foot ball as the foot is so rarely used by comparison]

I found league boring and predictable. Everyone stops and sets up for a rehearsed play of the ball. Repeat for 3 or 4 more phases, then surprise, surprise a kick. Ho Hum. I mean its so boring that the ball is shaped to give a less predictable bounce.

League scrums are a farce- the ball is put in behind the second rowers legs-I mean why bother?. Just hand over possession to the opposition and be done with it. Why bother having a specialist position of hooker when the ball so rarely goes down the tunnel? The only positive to come out of a scrum is that it concentrates the big slow forwards in one area of the field and allows some space for the faster backs to run.

The age old criticism of football by league fans is that football is for “Shielas, wogs and poofters’

Wwwwwweeeeeeeellllllllllllll………………….. NO.

Football is played all over the world and is the code with the greatest number of junior registrations in Australia. Union is at least played throughout Europe, Nth America, South America,  NZ, South Africa, Japan, and allegedly “it’s the game they play in heaven.” Even AFL, a bizarre sport akin to gaelic football is played in more states of Australia and has crowds far in excess than that of ‘league’

League is claimed to be “a mans game” compared to football,  but that’s not true either

A football game goes for 90 minutes- league is only for eighty.

There is little relief for football players because there is a limit of only 3 subs. League has/had an unlimited interchange where big unfit forwards will trot on for a short stint, get gassed and come off for a spell.

Perhaps you mean that football is less manly than league because there are so few cases of football players being found guilty of assault off the field? lol

Thanks for taking the time and effort that you put into your post @SuperHans, but Rugby League is, and always has been, the greatest game on earth. Sure, soccer is skilful but so is solving the rubix cube. Doesn’t make it a great spectator sport though!  I like union, but it is only great at the very top level. AFL is a good game and good to watch live but nothing gets the pulse racing like a good game of league at most levels.  Each to their own I guess.

Same, but I find the kicking duels tedious. Running rugby is more exciting

To each their own. I played both and found soccer boring as most of the time players are standing or running short distances waiting for something to happen. I used to watch all the sports, but with family life and fishing, I had to choose the one I liked and understood the most. Hence why I follow league.

Luckily we all like fishing though !!

All good, I just thought I would 'poke the bear' lol

WEEK THREE results

Friday, September 24

Preliminary final 1

 Bunnies 36  v  16 Manly

Saturday, September 25

Preliminary final 2

Melbourne 6  v  10 Penrith

so it`s a Bunnies v Panthers grand final…. will Bennett go down memory lane and rehash his 2006 Bronco v Storm GF blue print for 2021, I’m sure if the need arises he would again welcome a couple of unwarranted penalties going his way 🤣

I thought I was the only one in Qld who thought that. Hahaha

Nah, I thoroughly enjoyed their win on the score board, and it being set in stone in NRL records.... but long before the bunker, I didn't require it or Johns' or Fittler (and still don't) to tell me when a couple of dropped/loose possession balls are not strips 😂 GO the BUNNIES

Just a bit of fun sorry if it offended you. The clips are just gifs not something I sourced.

Personally I don't like watching soccer much. I played a few seasons and love to play it.

IMHO League is the best game to watch on TV, AFL is the best to watch live and while my heart is with Rugby, as it is the game I played the most, it is the game I watch the least these days. I don't like the technical rules and constant stoppages etc. I don't watch much soccer but my son in law loves it so who knows, that may change in the future.

While I don't agree with much of your critique 😘 I am glad you love the sport and are passionate enough to defend it. Each to their own I say. There is no doubt that soccer is the world game just not my cup of tea.

Again I didn't mean to offend anyone, just some fun with gifs.

Not offended at all DB, just having a bit of fun when I saw the gifs. Old Scaley wondered where I was going with it and will be glad that I didnt delve further into the more manly nature of a code whose players seem to be regularly in the news for drunkeness, assault, domestic violence, sexual assault, rape, covid violations I recall a league player whose signature move was to insert his finger into the anus of the tackled opponent. 😆

Thanks for running it yet again Brian, much appreciated. And thank you also @Gad for your always insightful (and entertaining 🙂) post-round thoughts.

Back to being humble again for me ....... I did notice on the NRL site that Jamie Soward was battling it out for last spot in their 'experts' tipping comp - hadn't realised he was going so bad as I watch alot of his previews before the round commences (I don't always copy his tips though ....) 🙂.

And congrats @Towknee - great tipping performance!!

Farewell to Benji the entertainer - he will forever be one of my favourite players (even despite playing for the Tiggers .... sorry Brian .... 🙂). If you have a few spare minutes, this article and the videos that are part of it are well worth reading/watching. Warning though, like me, you better make sure you don't get any dust in your eyes ....... 🙃Farewell Benji, thanks for the memories bro!!

Well done all the legends that beat me. That's pretty much everyone... But I am claiming a small victory this year. I didn't get the wooden spoon so that is a vast improvement from last year haha.

I will win for sure next year as all the QLD teams will win every game.

Thanks for organising it Elli and thanks for all the reports Gad.

ah yes, the Gentlemans game...
so called because many early cricketers in England came from affluent backgrounds and were considered to hold virtues of a 'Gentleman'....
In modern times, the game has retained this title due to the values associated with it, especially the idea of fair play. 🤔  😂🤣🤣
