new south wales Mystery fish

I have a predicament. My dad and I were fishing in killick creek (just upriver from the estuary) fishing for bream with fresh caught mullet. The night before we caught a 38cm bream before we ran out of bait, so we were pretty excited to see what would be there the next night. We cast our rods and my dad gets one big hit and the fish took off, no head shakes but he bent the rod like it was a moving snag. The fish kept swimming to the side and chewed through the line on the hook. The same happened to me 3 times after that. We have no idea what the hell this fish is because we were unable to reel it in on our rig. This thing was powerful as. Anyone know what type of fish this would be? It would have to have teeth because it chewed through the line every single time. I also don’t think it was bright coloured because I saw a glimpse of it and there were no bright colours. Please help! We are so intrigued as to what it is.

What line class was it? My guess is a half decent sting ray. They don’t have teeth (to my knowledge) but can easily bust you off

What bait were you using?

There are a few things it could be. Stingray and Estuary Cod would be top of my guess list due to no head shakes. But it could have been a type of Trevally or Mangrove Jack or Snub-nose Dart or Bonefish or tarpon or giant herring. 

My advice;

Pick the one you think sounds the best and say it was that one.

Like said above, I reckon there's a good chance it was a stingray. It seems a bit chilly and south down that way for a cod; maybe it was quite a large shovel nose ray?

I rekon a shovel nose shark or a big ray but who knows sometimes when You pull up something big up it’s not always what you expect . But more then likely that sounds like a ray to me
