Hi all. I’m learning to fish using soft plastics. Anybody can help with a quick question please?

Should I always retrieve the lure after casting out? Or can I leave it stay in the water and wait just like normal live bait?

Hi Quan Vu, welcome to the forum, letting the lure sit on the bottom will not achieve anything, after all it is just a piece of plastic, you have to make that lure imitate a live fish by flicking the rod and winding it in as well. They are designed to flip around and the tail to wriggle/flap in the water to imitate a bait fish which will hopefully entice a fish to strike at it.

Unlike bait, Soft Plastics do need to be retrieved. There are many different retrieve types, but try the walk the dog (slow wind) or a hop-hop type retrieve. Also, fish with the lightest weight possible. Good luck!

+1 to the above, however don't under estimate the power of a pause. Snapper for example eat on the pause (5-10 seconds)more often than not, and flathead love one too.

Hi guys. I’ve been trying soft plastics down the Logan River. It was like my lure always being moved with the current after casting out. I felt my lure wasn’t able to sink at all as it may be too light. Should I use a sinker or a heavier jighead?

Heavier Jighead would be my choice if you wanted it to sink to the bottom, putting a sinker in front of the lure would not work well.
