Thru hull transducer install (alloy boat)

Hi Kat , this is how I’ve put a thru hull transducer on my Tinnie.

All that I’ve done is welded a small bracket to the hulls lower chine.

Advantages are :

no holes drilled in the hull.

Almost impossible to damage the transducer ~ good protection at ramps and hitting debris 

no air bubbles or rooster tail , because it’s just a small flush extension to  lower chine.

no kick up issues whilst at sea.

The bracket ‘s  chine weld can be ground flush and then angled ever so slightly forward.

1st photo is of the upper chine of my boat  ,note my chines are at 90 deg to the keel line.

2nd photo is the lower chine with the bracket welded on.

3rd photo is a shot looking up at the transducer face.

It might be if I understood it .

Thanks Neil will pass it on.  From my reading of the installation instructions today I don't think this type of installation is recommended for my transducer.  Although I would like it to be protected from knocks etc.

No worries Kat , most people just go with transom mount transducers especially with Alloy boats.I’m sure you’ll be fine with your choice.This is just the choice I made  to set my Furuno up.

You’d have to have specifically ordered a thru hull transducer when purchasing a  new sounder, as most packages come standard with transom mount transducers as standard especially  from the chain stores.

You’d had to have  purchased your sounder from a more specialised outlet such as Trimax Marine to be offered transducer options.

Just make sure when you go through the  units install  set up , you select the the correct transducer type.

The type of transducer will be on a little tag located on the cable.If your lucky your sounder might even be programmed to automatically select it for you.
