queensland Tilapia trouble?

This is a guide on how to catch tilapia (sight fishing).

i am not the best to be giving advice, but i catch hundreds of these pests.

Equipment:

a fishing rod, pliers, lip grips, icky stick or brain spike, shovel or bag.  and don't forget the most important thing, the tackle box, in this you will need hooks multiple sizes normally pretty small some long shank and some circle, treble hooks, some sinkers, some floats multiple sizes, beads and some jig heads + little 1 inch white grubs.

Time:

anytime will suit, mostly in the afternoon is the best time, sunny day so you can see them and clear water, summer is also a lot better than winter and the colder months (thanks Hamish)

how to spot them:

they will be on the surface near weeds or lillies depending on the time of year they will be in a big school or in a breading pair.

how to catch them (bait is bread or dough):

i like to use a small hook with bread covering the whole hook, with a small sinker 20 cm up with a float just above the sinker.  cast past the school and slowly pull it into the school, if you didn't spook them you did it right, then when one shows intrest give it a little tug with will make it chase  it and then draw the attention of the others, let it then eat it without striking then strike when the float is far underwater.

how to catch using lures:

the only lure i have ever caught them on is a little white grub,  what you do is cast past them and pull it in slowly, try to pull it over them to get a reaction bite from the others.  if you brought treble hooks the put on a small sliding sinker with treble, and pull it over them to snag them.

how to dispose of them:

kill them using the icky stick or brain spike, then put them in the bag you brought, go into the bushes near the lake but far enough and dig a hole to put them in, or put them in a bin close to bin day.

Hey Tuna

Nice guide. It was a good read. Cheers for the tips. One thing you may want to add is they bite better in Summer. I have definitely found this at the local park - some people I know went there in Summer, and got heaps, I got one at the start of Winter. Now it's warming up a bit they may be more active though.

your right should have added the best time.  Ellicat I realised that I have little photos of my success so I went out this afternoon for a fish, and in 10 minutes I had two bloody rippers.
