We had the opposite problem Greg - plenty of bites but nothing fruitful/esky filling from them . We were at St Helena - where did you fish?

3rd Gold Coast offshore trip tomorrow at sparrows fart weather permitting!  Gonna upgrade the Snapper entry I hope!

Last offshore trip was very very very slow - still managed to outfish two seasoned Fishos though!  Brought back the only two legal fish landed. 

Plan is to get out a little wider than the last trip - my anxiety being the major issue!  Having had near nil experience on the water I found that the swell offshore in the dark hard to handle and I couldn't say I enjoyed the first couple of hours.

Haha @Kat. Not sure my snapper is any bigger than yours so you might still hang onto third spot in the snapper category.  Happy to get on the board today with the only mulloway so far. Especially since it was a bit of a fluke catch in terrible conditions and with a raging outgoing tide, on a cuttlefish head meant to tempt a snapper.

The bait was just sitting on the bottom. Running sinker (size 4 because of the run) on 20lb leader and a 5/0 circle hook. Definitely not expecting a Jew to take it.

Nice Jewie Steve, good work, it must have been a pleasant surprise

I thought I had one for the board, just before Xmas, all the hard work was done, I was just reeling him in the last few metres..... then I got burgled in broad daylight!!, he would’ve been a cracker if I landed him whole.

I still managed a decent feed with the flesh that was left though, and decided to preserve the jaws as a keep sake

Seems to definitely be a jewie, and I can just make out the faint blue specks in your sandals, so .......... I guess it counts as a jewie for the mighty Southside .......... . Any guess on approximate size?

Yes Kelvin. The river was probably the only place that was (barely) fishable today. You get after them, mate. If this one could be caught in the middle of the day in a strong run using cuttlefish head you should do well if you really target them. Good luck!

Hahahaha!!!, the only thing blue that day was the look on my face , hard to gauge an overall size with the scraps I was left with, best guess somewhere around a metre?, it was arguing with me for quite sometime, perhaps thats what led to its demise?
