What pitch prop for tinny?

Recently purchased a 25hp johson 1978 motor for my 3.5m tinny. I believe the current propeller is a 9pitch as it was tailored for a heavier boat. My boat is very light and I'm curious if a 13-15pitch prop would be better suited for extacting maximum speed and allowing the motor to run at a healthy RPM range. Any advice much appreciated, cheers - Rory.

Welcome to AFO mate.

I'd ask at the boat shop, most of them will tell you

if they think they will get a sale on a prop.

I got no idea, I just use what's on my tinny.

Engines have a specified rev range for eg. 5100rpm to 6000rpm. 

 

Your motor will have something like that for it as well. Normally in the owners manual. 

Being that age I would just fit it and go. 

A 25hp on a 3.5 is going to fly anyway.
