Land based, Saltwater, Brisbane North, Hi!

Howdy,

I've found this forum many times whilst searching google for tips and suggestions. It asked me join so I could see all your pics, so I thought I should. Might be fun and educational for us all.

I've got no interest in boating, and do quite well from the land anyway - mainly canals, estuaries, boat ramps, pontoons, marinas, and occasionally the beach. Almost always at night, once a week on average.

Only target larger species. I was sick and tired of targeting smaller species and getting bugger all, so I thought why not target only larger species and get bugger all? At least if I only catch one or 2 in a session that it would be more memorable.

Most common species caught are tailor, ray, catfish and pike eel. Usual baits are mullet strips and pilchard. Would love to find a jew but they don't seem to be as keen in the cutbait as the species mentioned above. My next mission is to learn the ways of the cast net.

Hey @Nuggs, Welcome to the AFO forum. Sounds like you've got the area sussed. That's a big cattie !

Do you ever give the bridge a go ? I believe there are squire there at times.

Welcome to the forum Nuggs. A cast net is definitely the way to go if you want to catch larger species. You can get prawns and baitfish depending on where you are. 

Some strips of pike eel or stingray may get you onto a shark, as well.

Hi nuggs, welcome to forum, lots of fishing knowledge and plenty of North bris fisherman here. In fact we recently came 2nd in a month long fishing comp. I occasionally Google obscure fishing ideas and surprising how often it sends me back here! Good luck chasing your fishy dreams, put pics of catches up and feel free to ask questions.

 P.s. pine River was full of prawns couple weeks back, boats were smashing them, I caught enough castnetting from the bank to use for bait + kept big 1s for a lil feed. Love the cast net and not paying for bait!;

Yeah this is the biggest cat I've got so far. A lot of them around in the passage and river mouths, especially through summer.

No I avoid the bridge, usually too busy. I prefer to find somewhere quiet.

Yeah one night I should keep one of the eels and setup a rig for shark! Good tip.
