Penn Clash 2 3000 issue

Hi All

i have a brand new Penn Clash 2 where the bail won’t open in a certain position. Opens in all other positions of the 360 deg rotation except one which is the bail pointing left 90deg to rod.

It will open about 90% of the way but won’t click to stay open unless I move the position slightly. Seems odd to me, should open at any position, yeh? 

Anyone have any experience with this problem with the Penny or another reel?

It happens to me on a couple of older reels. Both Shimano and Daiwa. Doesn't affect anything.

Thanks Ellicat. What causes it as don’t feel it should happen on a reel on the first outing.

I don't know. I don't remember it happening when my reels were younger and I agree with you re the first outing. I think I'd be taking it back.

I had this issue when I had my Penn SSM 650. Like ellicat, it only happened after a lot of use. I couldn’t be quite sure but I think the issue with mine was just a faulty bail arm spring.

It’s about the same spot that the reel locks if you were to start winding in but left the bail arm open.

It will be the mechanical bail arm closer. It is normal. Just use your hand to rotate it a little and cast away.
