The fitoff begins.

Finally got everything together to start fitting the new electric yesterday and got started this morning but the rain stopped me from getting the motor on today.

Stripped the old ACM deck I put on years ago and ground back the top ready for the new foam decking. Not sure the brand as I got it through a friend at work. 

Made a new mounting bracket at work from some scrap 25mm clear acrylic. 

Bloody thing moved on the CNC so not happy but it will do after some planing(so loud) and shaping to the deck.

Hopefully get into it early tomorrow and get the decking and bracket on. Wiring should be easy as I already have a inline 50amp fuse.

Pretty sure I'm going to run 2 batteries. The 150ah for the electric and a 120h for the sounders and lights. Gives me security when I'm camping and run out of battery because of using the electric I can still have lights and sounder.

Just a bit of sika and a few screws. The bolts going through to under the deck will sandwich it pretty well. It's really just a spacer but supports the front well.

Also I don't mind a bit of cushioning in it with the rubber spacers and I'm going to put some of the foam on top too.

Nah just keep the carpet too expensive to do the whole lot.

When my floor needs replacement I am thinking of getting checker-plate floor with some of that stuff on it to save some weight. No idea how much it costs yet. Any idea ?

That was about $250 for a sheet 2m x 1m and I used 2 sheets but have half a sheet left. I think they are about $300 full retail as well as seadek which I looked at but a bit thick for the top deck maybe down the line for the casting deck and floor.

Looks the goods @leeroy1. Definitely would agree with you on going a second battery for electric. Do you have a mounting spot for the battery?

Did you use the screws that came with the heading sensor? Just got to make sure you don't cause magnetic interference with your own screws

Batteries are under the front deck. 1 x 150ah and 1 x 120ah AGM's. 

Yes the stainless screws? Yeah I just screwed straight into the Ali.

Is that an issue?

I skimmed over the instructions may have missed it.

To avoid electrolysis when mixing stainless with aluminium, you can use a product called Duralac in the screws when you screw them in.

I do use a dab of sikaflex marine ellicat but she's an old girl anyway. 

I thought there might be interference with the compass.

Pretty funny story today didn't really think about it until after. 

I have s stubby finger or two that let's say lost a fight with a drop saw and I injured one on the weekend grabing the grinder before it had stopped and I had some band aids on my finger. 

Went to RTM and the guy serving looked at it and asked if I cut it off today and came there to get some wires and fuses.

But he did have a collection on 129 reels that he showed me photos of and not cheap old reels either. 

I thought I was bad.

It's alive. Finished wiring today and tried it for a minute or so.

Lot quieter and easier to see deploy than the early models and so happy the remote has AAA batteries not the round ones. Least I can get them at the servo on the way to boat ramp. 

Wanted to go for a run tomorrow arvo but 25kt SE makes it hard.

We'll see.

Those round batteries are illegal now, all getting

phased out.

You are all good with the screws, did the same and used sikaflex

Only other thing to watch out for:

The newer model supposedly draws a Max Amp of 50 and recommends a 60AMP fuse, but i'd just see how it goes with your existing inline 50amp fuse

Got a 60amp fuse yesterday used the same holder.

I think i'll get a 60amp circuit breaker in future.

Circuit breakers are the way to go imo. Not having to carry spare fuses and the ease of just resetting it are great pros.

Same thought although I never blew a fuse on the old one so maybe a waste of $50 but then as you said being able to reset it is good but need to think why is it tripping out?

With the trolling motor being "non-essential" to get you back to the boat ramp, I'd save the coin and only replace with a circuit breaker if you blow a fuse. Risk is it may put a dampener on the trip if/when the fuse blows.

I'm the same haven't had any fuses blow in my boat (touch wood). I guess if you keep the boat clean and good condition shorts are less likely.

If the trolling battery won't be hooked up to the outboard alternator (for on the water charging) then its unlikely you would get a short unless the trolling motor wires get accidently cut somewhere or you hit something on the trolling prop and overload things

First run today no fish to brag about but was mucking around with the electric more than fishing. 

1st thoughts are the spot lock is much improved,quieter and quicker response to the first generation motor I had.

Still to go through all the functions but they are not too different. Tracks,heading etc.

Also the 2nd battery up the front helped the tinny in chop etc kept the front down better and a bit extra weight helped punch through the chop better.

Surprised that an extra 40+kg on the port side made so much difference. The one battery before used to be in the centre.
