August Snapper Chaos

All, 

Been a few months between trips lately, Weather & family commitments have kept me off the water this winter a lot more than other years, 

A good mate of mine threw me an invite to have a try for few snapper in the middle of the bay on some rubble gravel bottom north of Mud Island. 

Ended up having a chaotic session on some rather large specimens, all fished released,  We got a, 69cm, 87cm & 89cm and my mate managed another @ 89cm right before heading home.

yeww thats some good size man, were they on livies or plastics? Hows the size of the knob of the first one, gotta love big snaps

All fish caught on big dead yakkas , bait size was around 18-20cm long.

Good to see some yakkas around, definitly one of the best baits. Im more of a lure fisho, hopefully can get one on a 8-9inch jerkshad

Thanks Brian, it's been a while since having a session on really good size fish like that,

We normally don't see the big boys until late September in this spot and to catch and release 3 in short period on time in 14m of water was good fun.

Are you doing any fishing in Victoria ?

We normally do take one for a feed mate,  But prefer to release the bigger ones if possible and keep one fish each around the 60-65cm mark.

Thanks @Andrew_P   I'm hoping they stay around for a little longer as they normally don't show up until the end of September in this spot.

I would love to get one of my kids out and get them hooked up to 8kg + of Snapper in shallow water.   

It might change their mind a little bit about going fishing in the boat.

Wish I remembered the comp was on, I would have taken brag mat shots of my fish for Northside.

No, we're in the snow. I did drive into the Salmon and Trout farm the other day, though but changed my mind. haha
