Has anyone bought from Boat Gear Australia at Yatala before?

They have a new remote there for sale that is remarkably cheap.....

What's happened to your remote ? They are so expensive.

tiny bit of water got in and corroded 6 tiny pins....had them repaired and it still is dead...presumably fried somewhere else in there

$559 is the cheapest at this yatala place

Next best is $615 ex melbourne

Or if i find a freight forwarding mob I can pay $275USD plus two lots of freight and charges to land here close the $550 mark.....

The new remote will get taken apart and the gasket coated with di-electric grease and re-assembled.

The amount of water that got in would not be enough to form a drop....it wicked in from the outside enough to cover a 6mm x 4mm section with a half a dozen soldered joints....micro thin bit of water.

OK CRISIS AVERTED!!!

I dug out an old waterproof smart phone I used to use several years ago.

Turns out I can operate the Kota Terrova with the I-Pilot app from that phone without a sim card.

This saves me the possible trouble of losing my good phone over the side of the boat.....I am just going to glue a lanyard to it of find an IP68 phone cradle with wireless charging  to mount beside the fish finder.

I will spend the $600 on a new remote when it is more affordable.

That's a good result. I've used the Bluetooth app on my phone, but I always fear losing my phone overboard when I pick it up. The app works fine once the Bluetooth connection is made.

I have just bought a smartphone only because my Gen3 is gone. Always had a simple phone. My Daughter told me to buy one. This phone talks to me. Different. Being old school, my daughter said get used to it. I was told to live & learn. I thought I was past that.

Go Garmin gents, the remotes are watrproof and float.

Downside is you need to buy a new Kraken and they cost an arm and a leg

This is all good info. I didn’t realise that the remotes aren’t waterproof. They look ruggedised so I just assumed they were. Also didn’t realise how expensive they are to replace. I will be extra careful from now on. Thanks.
