North Vs South 2025

I've changed the name of the previous Suburbs of Origin name, but the comp details remain unchanged. This is the 8th time this comp is being run. I'm looking forward to the lots of friendly banter that usually happens during the comp. Leader board from over the years has Team South in a commanding position with 6 wins to 1.

Please use this thread for banter.

2016 - Team South

2017 - Team South

2018 - Team North

2020 - Team South

21/22 - Team South

22/23 - Team South

2024 - Team South

No changes from last year in terms of species or scoring system. There will  be a 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each fish species. Each place will have a corresponding score. 1st (3 points) 2nd (2 points) 3rd (1 point). For either team North or South to win, they will need to have scored the most points overall. In the off chance that two identical length fish are caught, then all anglers who catch that exact same sized fish species will be awarded the same point. Eg: two people catch a bream that is 35cm which is the joint biggest fish. Both angles will score 1st/ 3 points. Ideally, the measurement should be down to the mm, but that is not always the case as not everyone has a brag mat that goes down to the mm.  "Trophy Fish of any Species not covered above" category. This will be for something like a pb Barra or Mangrove Jack that is somewhat remarkable. The ranking of the entries will be determined by reference to ANSA records for the particular species, with the score being the length of the entry divided by the ANSA record. Look here for the ANSA Records - https://ansa.com.au/index.php/trophy-length-only-records/
Total team overall score will be divided by the number of entrants to give the average. The team with the highest average will be the winner for that month.

SPECIES LIST
Bream, Australian Bass/Estuary Perch, Mangrove Jack, Whiting, Flathead, Snapper, Mulloway/Black Jew or Teraglin (Jew), Threadfin Salmon, Golden Perch (yellow belly), Tailor, Tuna, Mackerel, Cod (any type freshwater or salt), Trevally (any type) and Shark (Shovel-nose are allowed in this category), emperor species and tusk fish species.

This is a free event, with no official prize. Bragging rights are enough of a prize.

To keep it fair, the night before the opening day of fishing, a unique symbol/object will be released that must be pictured with the catch. Submissions can be made online in the topic that I will create to keep an up to date leader board for all to see (topic will be called “Noryh Vs South 2025 LEADER BOARD” . Each time a new longest species is caught, I will update the original post to let everyone know what Team is in front and who is winning each category. The unique symbol will be as easy as writing/drawing on a piece of paper or a hand signal or an object, which can be easily placed next to the fish. Fish where you want, just because you’re a Team North member doesn’t mean that you have to fish North of the Brisbane river and vice versa.

To be in Team North, you must reside anywhere in Australia north of the Brisbane River. To be in Team South, you must reside anywhere in Australia south of the Brisbane River. If you live on the river, the party is at your place.

Team lists below. Please nominate yourself in this thread, any time before  8pm on 31 January, 2025. Late entrants will be accepted if they join the forum later.

Team North @Alex2505 @benno573 @mangajack @Jono4500 @Cobiaaddict

Team South  @ellicat @AUS-BNE-FISHO @Cavvy @Old Scaley @Thorbjorn Hale @rayke1938 @Huxstang @Junky @kmcrosby78 @Allnighter @Neil Stratford

HOW TO SUBMIT AN ENTRY
To submit an entry, you will need a photo of the fish on a brag mat or some form of measuring device that clearly displays the length of the fish along with the unique symbol/object. This entry must be uploaded to the topic “North Vs South LEADER BOARD” before 8pm on the final day of the competition month. Even if you catch a fish that isn’t as big as the top 3 fish already submitted, feel free to post it up anyway as it would be great to see how everyone is going regardless. Non legal fish will be accepted...meaning fish that are not of a legal length as defined by the state you are fishing in. Just ensure that any non-legal fish are released safely.

The more anglers involved the better! This competition is designed to  just get some friendly banter going among this awesome community that we have going here on AFO and share our catches.

Also important to note, please only use the leader board topic for competition submissions. For any banter or general chat, just use this topic. Just helps me monitor the comp submissions easier

If you have any suggestions to improve the comp from last year, please say so before 10/1/25.
