Need to bring a bigger gun to the knife fight

Well we ventured out.this morning, we went out to Smiths and then out to 80m and then back into Hutchies and all we could get was tomato cod.  

So with the wind starting to pick up we heading down to Wildbanks Artificial to see what was holding.

My last effort there I was cleaned up on a Venom 12-30lb with the Twinpower 5000 drifting a squidtrek down past the structure so this time I had a Venom 20-60lb with a Saragosa 6000 with 50lb leader and drifting a 110 Squidtrek.

Well lets say this place costs me lures….hooked up and I had zero chance of stopping whatever decided it wanted the poor old Squidtrek.  

Then my mate hooked up on a plastic a bit further out from the structure, something a bit smaller but on a similar setup to my first epic failure there….Blade and Tails 20-30lb…same result though.

Anyway Wildbanks holds some huge fish - next time I am loading the biggest gun I own and if that doesnt work well I am not fishing Squidtrek there anymore as its too bloody expensive.

Some places the only way to fish it is with a 300lb handline and a bike tube and a hand on the throttle....

Do you have a short stroker combo?

If anything was to prevail it would be one of those.

That's exciting fishing knowing there are unstoppables down there.

What colour did the damage ? Does it even matter ?

No short stroker in my arsenal so I will go to a 6’6” PE2-5 with a Stella 8000 and wind up the drag to as much as I can handle.

Brian the gold Squidtrek for me and Hans was on a Berkley 5” forktail on a jig head….much better value to loose.  Those Berkleys are pretty effective and cheap.  Snapper love them in the blue and silver colour that much I have worked out.

I reckon today was the pick of the weather days but wife left for a trip to India today so me running off fishing was probably not the done thing.

Any speculation as to what's giving you a hiding ? Big Cobia or Kingies ?

Probably both and big jewies and amberjack.  You can see some very large fish holding around structure on livescope.  Some hanging high and others hanging low.

I like to hold on electric and cast and drift the lure back through.  Problem is that they are holding tight and that doesnt give you much room.  It is where I got my PB snapper as well.
