Best Crab Pot bait

Well i'm off to the tweed for a week on friday on a houseboat and, Since ive never done this before i wanted to know of the best bait's ppl use for mud crabs, there is proably an old post on this i cant find.

We always use mullet cut into 2 or 3 bits, or buy the crab bait from bcf and that has 3 or 4 mullet heads in for $7 i think, Some ppl use Chicken frams but i;ve never tried.

I use whole mullet, the freasher the better. It also helps to cut slices in the mullet to attract the crabs

I've used chook frames only $1 at woolworths they do alright caught enough with then;)

fresh mullet, the fresher the better and chook frames and they r cheap as.

I with Troy on the fresh mullet. Some think that stinking frames do the job and they do, just not as good as fresh fish dipped in aniseed oil. The trick is anything with very high protein. There are bait biscuits you can get from WA that are rediculously good. But fresh oily fish dipped in aniseed oil from the chemist. Did I mention aniseed oil? lolol

Cheap easy to use home brand cat food (the fish types like pilcards in aspic) simply use the old style triangular can piercer put several holes in the can

wire it in the pot works a treat cheap as chips bout a buck a tin

and if for some reason you cant get out to set your pots it's in a tin and wont go off :woohoo:

fresh fish skellies caught the same day if possible. when i worked on the barra boat thats wat got the best results

i use mullet cut into sections with good results fairly consistently. i tried using cans of tuna with a lot of holes punched into the can and it seemed to work ok but not quite as good results as mullet.
