GC Waterways and Fish

Well true to my confusion I managed to get to the GC canal’s about 30min after sun up. Tide was low but there was still a bit of action. I saw a couple of bait schools on the radar so I trolled a deep and a shallow lure around the edge and bang a little big eye trev jumped on the x-rap 120. Hey brian that spot looks familar and thats a nice cod mate

Yeah Stu - you could say I crossed the yellow line.;)

Cod went good but so did the trevs. The trevs were fast sprints that took drag on the Shamino 2500 and Pfluger 6'10" and the cod was a heavy slow pull on the Blackseep 250. The cod backed down into a hole so I had to motor over it and drag him out. That Caujin Red leader Schultzy put em onto worked a treat pulling the cod out of the hole.

should of tried poppers for the trevs and queenies and plastics as well good chance of jack and bream

Well Stu - I was targeting Jacks on HB's but didn't get one.

The surface was a bit lumpy for my poppers, I tried 2 different types in the smoother parts but couldn't get a hook up.

I had spinners (slugs of many varieties) but didn't get around to using em, they work on the queenies, especially those brass bumperbar type things.

I had plastics with me but will only use em if the HB's don't work and the HB's went just fine. I nearly went the paddle tail white worm plastic bait things but nar, didn't want to.

I only tried 7 different lures today which is a bit lazy for me but the fish were bitting so I can be excused.

Once again awesome stuff Brian. Next time try a gold Xrap and you might get a Jack. A cod like that is just as good if not better than a Jack anyway.

Might have to have a land based adventure to the GC soon.

You know what Dan - I had some gold barra lures with me(I use gold early morning) but there was heaps of mullet so I stuck to the mullet colour. The water was still a little brown.

The water I get jacks in is either brown or coffee black. The gold seems to really work the best. My dad reckons it must look like a reddish hue in that colour of water and the Jacks hit it thinking it's a smaller one in it's territory. Just a theory though.

But I've caught or been hit or busted off by Jacks on a gold Kokoda sprog, gold poppper, gold Cep 70f several times, gold Xrap and even had a hit on a gold Classic F18.

Only other colours I've gotten jacks on were a blue slick rig and a squidgy in bloodworm.

So that's why I say gold is the colour. Also I've read that some guys up north almost exclusively use gold bombers for Jacks.
