A few quick sessions

Have only managed a few really quick sessions over the last few days. Mainly just catching a few breambos over the weekend then Kev and I had a quick session at Schultz after work this arvo. Didn't produce much. A few more bream and baby cod and 1 pretty big Lizard that fought like rubbish. Luckily it broke off when I half heartedly tried to pull it onto land because I had no handling tools and don't really like trying to manage the bigger ones bare handed.:(

I found out that Squidgy wrigglers in the bright orange colour work well at schultz. Must look like a prawn or something.

Managed to recover some photos from the weekend so here's a few pics. Nothing impressive though.

Another bream on a wriggler. Pretty much the only plastic I seem to catch fish on regularly. [img size=398]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/mybream1.jpg

Funnily enough that wasn't the goer this arvo. Just a straight wind with smooth rod lifts did the trick.

I missed literally dozens of strikes because the wind was really blowing and I was getting a big belly in my line so by the time I felt bites it was too late. The belly made it hard to really give the lure much action. I was also only using 1.5 gram jig heads so the wind was pretty much dragging it sideways. Didn't have any heavier jigs on me or I probably would have hooked up on a lot more fish.

Yeah, unfortunately at Schultz when the tide gets low you can't really do that unless you have a 9 foot rod because you stand up on steep banks that drop straight down to the water. That's why I hate flatties there when you're fishing light because if you catch one you can say bye bye to your lure unless you want to climb down and risk getting a wet arse. The one I got today was surprisingly big. Probably 60-70cm, felt like fighting a small bit of weed. No fight at all! And that was on 6lb test.

he he, don't get Kev started on his 12ft "traditional Chinese fishing style rod" He's obviously never seen old timers fishing for Luderick if he thinks he's got some big secret there:laugh:

I reckon a big long rod like that would work well on some really light weight plastics too. So much give you'd never miss a perfect hook set!

That'd probably be good, I've shed enough blood to those buggers.

And yeah I'm a big wuss but at least I'm man enough to admit it.

Mate thats the worst think you can do on a big Dusky, they have very sharp upper teeth, I have seen people get bitten to the bone after sticking there finger in a large flatheads mouth. the best way is to pick it up with your hand right around the middle with your thumb pushing down on its bum hole for lack of a better term. this paralizes the fish without harming it. I have picked up flathead over a metre this way no problem

Yeah, the way Lee is describing how to pick em up was how I saw Starlo doing it. Probably will give it a go one day. Maybe if it was a PB I would have tried to bring it up for a pic. Only thing I felt bad about was leaving the poor bugger with a jig in its mouth but I'm sure it'll rust out in a day or so.

I saw you use this method on one of my flatties on the charter when you showed the skipper how it's done. I was impressed - it worked well.

Do you have to use your thumb or will any finger do ? :P

i have grabbed them that way i dont grab from the centre of the mouth, i go off to side and brab the bottom lip, also put the knuckle of your thumb pressing against the top lip so it cant close its mouth. although if they slip in your fingers get ready for some pain. thats why i just bought lip grippers
