Get your boat on TV

This is a boating event.

As your calendar is filling up I thought I'd let you know of another rally against the EPA's ridiculous rezoning plan.

It's on the 10th of Feb. Boats will be meeting at Newstead for some guest speakers etc and then heading up the river past the Southbank stretch of the river as a public awareness stunt.

I would imagine it'll draw some media attention (as did the last one) so if you're a supporter of the struggle against oppression or even if you're just vain and want to get on TV then come along.

I never saw any press in relation to the last rally? Did it go ahead? Did anyone from here attend?

Will check the diary for the 9th, I have never had my boat in the Brisbane River so could be a bit of an adventure...

yeah allready have the paper head lines made up for this one. local cop charged with obstructing water ways! hahahaha:laugh:

Yes it did go ahead. It received only limited TV coverage because this is not a big topic for the uninformed and mislead Joe Public.

The EPA were running the deceptive and misleading advertising campaign a month or so before Christmas. The response was a quickly put together boat on trailer road protest at a bad and busy time of year. The turn up was pretty good considering this. But one jab wont win you the round let alone the full bout so more punches with more weight need to be thrown.

Journalists (loose term) like the popular Francis Whiting (ironic name) are either intentionally or not making Joe Public even more mislead and disinterested with their articles. That's why supporting these things is so important.

And yes, there were members here that attended the last rally, but not enough.

I know you're only joking Kriso:laugh: , but to clarify for others - It's an "approved" rally and it's not an obstruction stunt either.:)

Actually I've just discovered the date has been changed to the 10th of Feb, so please change your diary if you need to.

The idea is that there will be a meet up point at Newstead at a set time and then the rec fisho armada will head upstream 5 boats abreast past Southbank and turn around after the next corner and then past again and then off.

I'll update the thread when the final details are known.:)

Hi guys,

New to the forum but would love to take part in this although dont know if the boat will be ready by then but going to my best to make sure it is. I think as many people as possible need to take part as if there are huge numbers the media can't ignore it and other so called journalists can't make us all out to be crackpots. The more boats the better for us all.

The rally is now scheduled to start at 10.30am in the river opposite Newstead House/Park. (You wont miss it;) ) Try to get there at 10AM.

There will be a bit of a talk from someone and then the armada will head upstream (5 boats abreast*) past the city and finishing at the coathanger.

Attached is a flyer if you wish to promote the event yourself or give to a business that may wish to support the idea.:)

Just a bump to remind those interested that this is on this coming Sunday.

Low tide's about 5.30am, so I'm thinking of trying for some threadfin early and then join the rally.

Anyone keen on joining in ?

There is still the opportunity to support the rally landbased by heading to Newstead Park where the major presentation will take place.

If you're keen enough I have a spare seat in mine.

Haven't seen a recent pic of you holding a threadie:P

(Except maybe others' at the BRC:laugh: )

If anyone is in the area, you might be able to listen in on the radio -

I've had a few PMs from members who are attending.

Just wondering who IS coming ?

Landbased supporters are welcome too - just rock up to Newstead Park.

If you put your name down, then it might be a good meet and greet opportunity. Some landbased guys might get a deckie offer.

Of the guys that have said they are coming, all are taking the opportunity to have a fish before or after.:)

Well I hit the water with Faulked early Sunday. (Thanks again for the day out). After 5 hours having a pretty lay back fish and a quick call in on the Sunken wall fellas we headed up to the rally.

I guess about 40 boats in attendance. Listened to some well worded political spiel from both sides of politics with few questions from the organiser really answered properly.

The buffoon from the sitting side made it clear that the proposed Zones are here to stay regardless of any submission saying they are not wanted/needed. He did however offer a glimmer of hope by saying that he expects some of the green zones to change colour to yellow. He also made it clear that they will really only respond to peoples submissions on where and why they want changes to the proposal. With no independent cameras in the parliament and a hostile print media (to us) we may never know the truth though:P Submissions close 7/3/8

I've discovered 3 bits of media attention.

Firstly Channel 7 gave a good bit of coverage in their news and also had the topic as part of their news grab adds/highlights.

Secondly Channel 9 gave a completely inaccurate summary in their shortened News at 5. They said the police were called to control us or some other rubbish. The Police were prearranged by the organisers and actually escorted us.

Thirdly, The Courier Mail (http://www.news.com.au/couriermail/story/0,23739,23189910-3102,00.html

As usual gave a completely distorted view with 99% bias against us, with skewed and irrelevant statistics:blink:  to turn the story into a plug for anyone but the fishos. It's always been a big publication of paid adverts - I just wish there was some editorial truth & balance occasionally.

Thanks to faulked, Malcolm and Jeff f (& deckie) for taking a few hours of precious time and giving their efforts to make a difference.:)
