Jigging for herring?

Where abouts would I be able to jig for herring for live bait in Brisbane. I'll be using those multi-hooked pre-bought things. I've done it heaps down the Tweed, but wondering if herring like that are in the Brissy river, and if so, where abouts could I get them, land based.

A cast net would be a better option, but you might be able to use the jigs at Bretts Wharf. That's only place that I can think of that's deep enough:S

If you find any deepish pontoons or wharf's, it should be fine.

Bribie jetty seems to be the best closest place that ive been, but i have got a couple at deepwaterbend, went today and tryed the jigs but only got butterbream.. Castnets are far better around here, with the bonus of prawns!

I live near Brett's Wharf, so I think I might give that a burl.

I've never used a castnet, however I'm looking into getting one soonish, the jigging is a back up plan until I buy a net and learn how to use one!

I have caught plenty off the redcliffe pier, jigging on the lower platforms up the end you are pretty much guaranteed a catch. Hornibrook bridge has produced for me quite a few times aswell.

Saw a dude up at Hervey over New Years use bits of mullet flesh and little bits of squid on his jig hooks:unsure: Have never ever tried that one....should have as I never got a sniff at my jig, was rather windy though

I agree with the "get a cast net theory" As has been said, you will get herring, but also mullet and prawns.

However for the jigs, maybe some of the harbours around the joint. Scarborough? Manly?

Hahaha one day fishing off shag rock at straddy (it was far to rough to go any further out, in fact it was dam tough at shag) we were getting zilch on the jigs bait wise. Anyway chucked some small pieces of squid on and what do you know, squire after squire. Many of these were legal and many hooks were bent in the process.

I was jigging for Yackas in a Rubble Ground out past Harrys, landed a 68cm Spottie Mack. Not sure if it took the jig or a Yacka I had caught. RThen got spooled by a Turtle who like a Yacka on the jig
