It's good to be fishing again :)

Finally got to wet a line this weekend after 3-4 weeks of work and travel and work and word. Didn't catch anything yesterday except for a pink looking bream. Not sure if it's a baby squire so I threw it back as it was only about 27cm. Had some leftover bait so decided to fish again this morning and first cast in and 5 mins later, reels goes screaming but what it was managed to break my 60lb leader at the last minute. Second cast and I was on to another big fish but after a few short sprints, it ran towards me so managed to reel it back with ease. Low and behold, it's a threaddie! Was happy that I finally caught my first threadfin but was a pity it didn't put up as big a fight as I had seen before. My first nevertheless. It went 90cm and 9lbs on the scale gutted :P

Judging by the metal flooring I'd say you're right about Newstead Angus. I've only caught Catties and a car bonnet Ray there so you're doing great Boon. Squire landbased is pretty awesome. That's one I'd like to tick off my list, not to mention a thready in Brisbane. I might have to have a short break in my no bait fishing ethos. I wonder if anyone's tried throwing a mask vibe in around there?? That is supposed to be the No1 Thready lure.

Do you mind letting us in on what stage of the day and tide you guys have had your success??

Once again well done:)

Sorry for giving it away Boon. Good to see you're like most of us and frown upon that sort of behavior. If too many people do that they'll stop looking the other way and start fining people. I had one guy give me a ten minute talking to once there about how we had to clean up after ourselves and told us heaps of people have been getting fined. We hadn't even rigged up yet and he was lecturing us so he must see a lot of people trashing the place. I think he was making up the fining part to get rid of us. Put me off fishing there anyway and I haven't been back since. Pitty because it's a good landbased spot if you want to feel some decent weight on your line.

That's all right. Newstead is an ok place to fish and I go there most often as that's my closest fishing spot. Also I always fish during 'off-peak' periods. Haha. Newstead pontoon is nearly always guarenteed to have a few fishos every night and definitely on weekends so if you don't like getting lines tangled, it's not a place for ya :)

Definitely haven't heard or seen anyone getting fined but the peeps from the fisheries stopped by once for a check.

As for weight, there are plenty of huge catties and rays there so it's good for a workout but dun bet on getting threaddies too often ;)

They just checked the fish and didn't bother about the sign. There was a dodgy guy there that had undersized bream but he threw them back into the water when he saw the fisheries boat.

Kev, there are plenty of rays there and ur bust offs are most likely from em unless the fish sprinted off at 100km/h, then it could be a threaddie. Hehe

I got my first bream on Hb just down from that jetty, so yeh, there would be bream and cod ect in the rocks there, but no point trying off the jetty when you can stand on the rocks and cast paralel, cover alot more ground.. Dont know what it would be like using mask vibes off there, Might be there for a few days before ya get a cattie! :P.

Don't like to be one to disagree but I reckon if you can cast at a rockwall and work the lure back down the face of it you'll always do better than if you are casting from the rockwall up one way or another. You're also far less likely to get snagged. But like you said you are limited to one little spot there, so I'd do both.
