First Threadfin

Hey all, just got back from kooka park where i just scored my first threadfin. it was a surprise to all of us out there as we were targeting bream and a few muddies in the pots. we got a big ass eel and a few catties but nothing to brag about and i started checking the crab pots and i pulled the first three in to find a few undersized crabs and nothing to take home and the last pot was empty except for a 52cm thready in it going for a chunk of mullet. surprised the hell out of me thats for sure. maybe next time i will be lucky enough to get one on the line instead of fluking one in the pot.

cheers

we tried a heap of live baits after the threadfin showed up, live mullet and prawns and we couldnt get a hit on anything live last night. i have not had great success at all with live bait in the last few weeks, i have tried some sp's for bream with no success as well, i am getting great results with dirty old mullet gut with the bream out at kooka. I picked up some compressed tuna blocks for the crab pots from charltons at redbank and failed miserably and went back to mullet but i think i will try chicken frames after seeing some of the other lads having good results with it.

cheers

Brenton, I find the top end of the river goes belly up after heavy rain (and we have had more over the last two months than I have seen for years). The sharks become scarce and even the catfish plauge goes off the chew. Once the salt starts creeping up again, try your live mullet againB)
