Another Crack - Curtain Reef Aus Day weekend

Tellin the old man about the smoking and bust off on curtain with faulked on friday night, he thinks I only land big fish when he is in the boat with me :P

Now I have never seen the old fella get hit like we did over there, so I am sure he is going to poop himself. His technique is set the hook hard and skull drag them in

With all that in mind, planing for another run to curtain reef for the ritual australia day weekend bash with the family.

Have not planed a particular day as yet but saturday night is on the cards but will wait to see what tides and weather come in. Anyone welcome to meet up at the ramp and scoot across the bay with us for an overnighter.

having never landed a cobia do they fight dirty and go to wrecks to rub you off as thats exactly what mine did and i knew it just couldnt stop it :)

I'd say if it was a Cobia it'd have to be a big one if you couldn't land it Faulked. I landed a 129cm one over rocky structure when I about 11 years old. From memory it only took about 5-10 minutes to land. I reckon it would more likely have been a big cod or something like that.

faulked was running for about 10 minutes. It was an odd bite. I remember him saying something strange pulling on his line and then ziziziziziizizizizi the line went when he was winding it in. He then fought with it bringing it up to his side of the boat. Then it went around to the other side and kept coming up. Must have seen the light on the deck and then shot of with ziziziziziiziziziziz screaming run about 50 meters and crack the line snapped.

Righto, I am thinking the wind is going to be up tonight about 20kts SE. I really wanted to hit mud island first for a few hours (have three spots there to check out, then if not producing, head to harrys and again if not producing, hit rouse channel. This is all well and good if the wind is around the 10kt mark but if it is blown up curtain reef will be the best bet. Just a lumpy ride across the bay.

We could launch further south (wellos) and stick south or around maclay island but really want to take the lads out to get smoked savagely as they don't believe the last trip with faulked.

With all that said, I will say we will be launching from the port of Brisbane, heading across under the pipes for some cast netting off the bow for livies, then punch across the bay.

After nicking a rock on the trip with Kevin, I put the prop in for a repair and tune, so I am expecting a little less cavatation and much less fuel consumption. They reckon on average when you tune (even new props) you can get up to 30% more power and the same in fuel saving. This will be interesting to see as it cost 100 bucks in fuel to cross the bay and back on the last trip with an injured prop.

The other addition is one of those fanny flaps (as I call them) hydrofoils (actually they are just an extension of the cavatation plate on the motor. Apparently they are good, though this is yet to be seen on a heavier boat like the Bulldog. Will let yas know.

Anyways enough of the babble.....

Anyone else hooking up for a run?
