best bait for snapper?

hey all. down at bretts wharf i caught 2 snapper a few weeks back. both reasonably small, around the 35cm mark. i was just wondering if anyone has any tips on things such as bait or rigs or something like that. thanks:)

mate squid always seems to do good on the old snapper

i have seen them taken on pilly( very effective but get picked by smallish fish), squid( long lasting), tuna, live bait (all sorts of livies) and yakkas

thanks. squid doesnt seem to work for me during the day and im not allowed out at night ill try some livies tho

Mate definetly squid seems to work a little better, I have found the Californian calamari bought from BCF in the blue box has worked the best for me so far.

your brother should know, i remember a post where he did well on the squire around that area. Apart from that, brisbane_boy got a 27cm one on squid a while back and that was in the day.

if im bottom bashing reef after larger knobbies ill pull the head out of a squid stick a pilly up inside it and put a 6/0 then a 9/o snelled two hook rig on it the 6/0 through the squid then the head of the pilly then back out the squid and the 9/0 through the body hope that makes sense its like a pilly in a squid sleeping bag it sort of works for me some times the pickers still pull me to pieces

Seen faulked whip this unit up and having a bit of a larf about it :woohoo: Works really well though and keeps the pickers at bay a far bit.

Out in the bay, we get a lot on Prawns, ganged Pilchards and Squid. Ganged pillies seam to work best and if used in the river, you'll have a good chance of getting a Shark, but sadly, you'll have an even better chance of getting a monster Catty:silly:

plastics seem to do the best in the river , but apart from that, the freshest fleshbait you can find should do the trick

Yeah mate i find that pilchards are the best way to go if you are targeting good sized snapper. I tend only to get the smaller snapper or squire when i use squid.
