G'day beggo

it's not really hot here at the moment but the hot days r not far...its summer time here actually.

u can catch a huge variety of fish here. the common catches in the estuary are yellowfin bream, flathead, whiting, catfish, stingray, shark, cod and steam trains. bait like prawns, fish fellets and live small fish will usually do the trick.

freshwater fishing here is fantastic as well. you can try australian bass on lures and live fish/shrimp. or you can do some carp, mullet and tillaipia fishing using float fishing method.

if u have any further questions, members here r very happy to help you out.

should have added im mad keen on carp fishing here in the UK its a really big industry here now and most young anglers go straight into carp fishing its a shame really as its not about catching big fish all the time its about enjoying what you do and that getting out there fishing.

I believe you dont find carp fishing as exciting as we do here also are they classed as vermin in ozz and whats the law on catching them do you put them back or do you kill them i know in some parts of germany you have to kill them.

i am from China and the time i fished for carp can be 20 times longer than the time i fish for all other species. i was a hardcore carp fisherman. but here you will find lure fishing just as good and you will enjoy catching multiple species on lures. when doing lure fishing, you only need one rod, one reel, one line and a few lures. no need for tons of tackle when carp fishing. so now i do lure fishing most of my time even if i usually don't catch a single fish. lol

steam train means something unstoppable, big fish.

Shouldn't be too hard although I havn't targeted sharks only pick them up as a by catch , theirs plenty of guys on the site who chase them and I am sure they will advise you more once they get on line as its 9 am on a work day here. some mates of mine used to fish for them along the inside of moreton island with big live baits and harness them selves to the bullbar of a 4wd:laugh:

The bullies in the river go right off the chew in winter. The numbers in the bay and around the islands are much harder to get in winter too, but your chances in June would be better there than in the river. There's a dedicated sharking section in the forum that has plenty of reports that are worth reading before you come.:)

Mate easiest way to explain this is simple.

Our winter time is as good as our summer, but just for different species. I would targetign bream and bass in winter. If you are here in the winter, check out our AFO Winter Camp that we host. Its a grreat way to both catch plenty of bass and meet some good blokes.

Hey Beggo,

Winter is my favourite fishing season. Big flatties, bream, Snapper/squire and Jewies. I plan on hitting a few spots to Target jew this winter. Let us know when your here, I'll orgainse a time and you can come out on my boat with me one night. We'll see if we can get a few of us with boats to have a AFO night on the river mouth.

Angus is right too. You should try and come to the Winter camp, bring the missus and kids. Kids will have a ball,a dn so will you. Bass from canoes, a good feed and a few quiet night caps with great company.

As to something for the missus to do so you can fish more. Its called "DFO", just give your missus the credit card and directions to the nearest DFO store and you wont see her again till your back on the plane! Or untill the credit card maxes out, so maybe just 1 day of fishing at the least;)

Like a few people have said, Sharks go off the bite in winter, but you can still catch the odd one. Snapper come up around Brisbane in numbers during winter and these are excellent eating (far better that whiting imo). Bass are also easier to catch from what other people have said on AFO. Bream come in numbers and Flathead are also good.

However, there is a down side. Fish like Mackerel, Tuna, Trevally etc go up north. As do Estuary Cod and Mangrove Jack.

In Australia, Carp and Tilapia have to be killed upon capture and then not returned to the water for any reason. They say you should bury them above the water line.

If you were to target Sharks, an outfit of 10lb would be fine for Sharks up to 1m (common during summer in the Brisbane river), but over that and they go pretty hard.

Bass at north pine are easier to catch in winter but not all dams depends on how you target bass, they do school up better down deep but you have to be able to find them I have done alot better at somerset in warmer months than winter but maybe that was lack of trying when its colder people who troll lures will do better in warmer months cause the bass sit higher in the water column and along the thermocline line in some of the dams.North Pine is good cause instead of walking and casting alot to get afew bass you can target them in one spot once you get a few and get onto a school which makes it a bit easier
