Hi Guys

What are everyone thoughts on an over-nighter at Mud Is this weekend.

Never been there before but I hear there are a couple of good anchorages depending on the wind direction.

We thought a trip from a boat ramp around Wynnum on Sunday morning, returning Monday morning.

I havent been anywhere near the Brisbane river before, so didnt want the extra hassles of navigating the mouth.

Just thought we would take a look while the holidays are still here with a view to getting serious over the next few months.

Loaded up on plastics and bait today and am keen to go somewhere after a few weeks around the farm.

Thanks

Aussie

Quikest way is launch from the boat ramp on fishermans island and go straight out the mouth of the river bud (nothing special to worry about) There's a yellow beacon off the N/E tip of mud it fishes ok might see ya out there

Is that the boat ramp near a bridge onto Fishermans Island that you can see in the Beacon to Beacon? I am assuming that you would slip under the bridge and out into the river?

No hazards in particular?

Thanks guys as well. We will be there baring bad weather

The river mouth can be rather unplesent on an outgoing tide with a northly wind blowing up it , but is only a short run just feels a long way when its rough . also the sand banks on the port side heading out can get very shallow . I should be out on the bay sun and mon dont know where yet will be on VHF ch 73/16 call sign Tinny or azza so sing out and have a chat.B)

Hi Guys

Well we ended up going to Mud Is on Sunday morning. No worries getting there. Picked out a few nice reef outcrops and did a bit of fishing, bait and plastics. If the juvenile fish had of been legal, we wouldnt have had room in the boat to fit them. Small squire, bream, tailor, grassies, parrott, esturie cod, moses perch, any amount of grinners and a few varieties I havent ever seen before.

Had a couple of big runs, one in particular took a little piece of squid on a lang-shanked hook, 6lb line and took off for Redcliffe. The drag took hold, must have overheated and then siezed - fish gone.......... The reel and its identicle twin is now in the bin......

Sunday night was a tad blowie, 20 - 25 knots I reckon with 1.5 seas?? We still fished the reef to the north, It was uncomftable but fishable. We did have the entire sea to ourselves. Scored a nice 3kg tailor,1 legal Grassie, 1 legal parrot and a few big bust-offs.

Slept against the noth side of the island out of the wind. That was ok for an hour or two. We dropped a couple of pots there just because we had them and scored a couple of legal male sandies that were as full as....I didnt think we would have got any, not my idea of crab grounds.

Monday morning saw about 30 boats over the reef to the north and near as many to the east.

Same story as Sunday morning, countless juveniles in all manor of species. One big bustoff when it ran under the boat and couldnt be stopped... The last piece of bait as well.

The son reckons he kept a bit of a count and we score well over 100 fish for 3 keepers...

Plastics scored one bream and some sort of reef fish. Not convinced as yet.

Ok for the first time there in ordinary weather. We will definately be back...

Cheers guys
