since there isn't much going on in the forum at the moment i've decided to post this report despite the slow day we had.

yesterday while my dad was at work we decided to have a land based bream session while working through the canals. Unfortunately the large bream that were regularly seen crusing around in winter were absent yesterday and only a few smaller ones were around.

I managed to get a 48cm flathead early in the day casting parallel to a rock wall and bringing the lure over a sandy beach. It honestly felt like 60cm+ but after many 20m runs it turned out to be foul hooked hence the better fight.

Nothing happened for ages:dry: until finally Fraser manged to get a pike and shortly after a very small estuary cod. Since it was Fraser's first cod he didn't care about the size.:)

Despite Will's repeated attempts to catch one of the 50cm longtoms that were around he failed to catch anything all day.:P

So a very slow day but it beats working;)

How good would that (the cod) look in an aquariuum:woohoo:

Thanks for posting the report. My last report was 10,000 words and I didn't catch anything except shrimp and crays :P

Good stuff guys. I've been meaning to make a trip out there to have a go. The water looks pretty clear and that spot in the background of Fraser looks like it's be good at high tide.

I should go for a fish this arvo but I'm buggered. Reading this is giving me energy though :)

For a second i thought you meant Fraser Island:laugh: my bad. There is literally kilometres of stuff like that. in some places the water is much much clearer and the rocks have soft corals growing upon them (usually moses perch hot spots). But as is the case in fraser's pic there is a little more mud around and places like these usually hold some decent bream willing to take a lure whereas if it were clear they totally avoid your lures.

Some of those spooky spots might fare well with ultra light lines and super light weighted Squidgy wrigglers. I manged a bream the other day in super clear water right in front of me doing that. I reckon they're one of the best finesse presentations because you can just work them back super slowly and they have a great action on a slow sink.

At one point Will was using a 1/32 jighead with a 2inch ulp shrimp in mango ripple but only managed a few small touches but something with a bit more action should work.

Prior to this I caught a prawn with my hands, about 7cm long, and cast it unweighted under a pontoon and had a run but the hook didn't set. There still is fish around so maybe a live bait may get better results instead of trying lures the whole time.

....There is a public pontoon with deep water out the front which would be ideal for cast netting if anyone is interested

I really want to fish there now:) I'm hanging out for new spots. I'm pretty bored with Schultz lol:laugh:

Dad reckons he found a new wild Bass spot so I might try that tomorrow.

I heard that around the Cleveland canals it's hard to get access to a lot of land based spots but it sounds like that wasn't true.

It is fairly hard to find a spot to fish from. You can only fish from the occasional vacent lots, from the very small parks or from the public pontoon next to the train station. However, to the left of the boat ramp, there is a very big park with heaps of fishing room.
