A mate of mine decided to go for a fish in the afternoon so we headed to Pinkenba and launched there, to our surprise the shop and half the carpark has been bulldozed.

We launched and headed right out the mouth to the beacons and anchored up. First thing I did was load up a 3" nuc chicken shrimp to a 1/4oz jighead and threw it over and chucked it in a rod holder.

We loaded up the other rods, I was sticking with SPs, he was bait fishing. About halfway through rigging my second rod, my first started screaming. I jump and grabbed it and set the hook. I had the drag pretty loose so I kept pressure on the fish and tightened it a bit.

This was definately a big fish, and he had 6 or 7 really big runs, I was sure he was going to break my line ( 8pd braid, 12pd leader ). We both called it for a cod as he kept running to the cover of the beacon.

Finally got him up near the boat, and *ping* he's gone! strangely there's still a touch of weight on the line and when I bring it in, he hasn't snapped a line, he's straightened the hook!

Unfortunately that was the only decent strike I got out there, a few nibbles but nothing solid.

Pete on the other hand kept getting solid strikes on pilchards. He pulled up a massive Ray, dropped another two rays and even pulled in a desperately undersized whiting.

After a while it died off totally there, so we moved back into the river. We were going to try around the gasline for threadie but it was pretty busy there, so we headed down to the mouth of aquarium passage looking for some bream.

I got plenty of strikes right up close to the wall, but was having a hard time converting them. I did manage to pull in two Moses Perch, but nothing of a decent size. Still was my first Moses Perch ( and first Moses on Plastic too ). I also got a tiny chopper tailor on an sx48.

Pete on the other hand got two good sized shovel noses, and a decent chopper tailor which he dropped beside the boat.

Headed back to the boat ramp at about 7:30pm.
