Just had a read of the DPI&F article (from the frontpage link)

Would be good to see them around the SE corner.

Ray might be talking about releasing them instead of bass into Lake Kurwongbah in the near future (once the research is done:blink: )

What lure do you suggest ?:woohoo:

I have only seen pictures. But they look like a cool fish.

I thought the first Spangled Perch i ever caught in a little brookfield stream was one actually :P

Apparantly for their size they fight hard as well.

Upstream of the Mt Crosby Weir would have to be sweet habitat for them....

i have caught many jungle perch and found the best lure a little red nilsmaster or a tiny 1 inch rapala in clown colours. JP's are an amazing fish, they look unreal, they grow quite big in small creeks but the water needs to be always clean and fast running. i dont thing they could survive down here, not really the best conditions would be great to see them though. Even in the far north you have to be pretty keen to go after them and succeed.

G'day Deano. Thanks for the info and welcome to the site.

The DPI&F report (above link) suggests that SEQ is(was) actually part of their natural range. So hopefully it can be again.:)

I guess though part of the reason their not there though may be the daming of their natural rivers and creeks? Be nice to see some more around those rivers/creeks that havent been damed. Ive read heaps of articles on them, and they're def on my to do list. Cant wait

would be great to catch some down here. i don't know if any of you are in to fly fishing but if you are it is by far the most effective way. i used to even use an extremely light spin outfit in tight situations and cast heavier fly's with them, works a treat. are there any little ones in the higher reaches. i have just driven past during work but never gone to have a look. the creeks on upperbrookfeild road look pretty cosy.

i used to canoe down the tully river in fnq when it was a bit choppy offshore. the main catch is the sootie grunter which put up a goo little fight but when you get a jp you know it. the ussually hit as soon as you start moving the lure and the hit upwards, lots of silver. they are great fun. a bit like a barra but more erratic

Sweet mate. Good info. Any pictures of them just out of curiosity?

Have you got into the bass down here much?

Angus
