Early evening interest

The old boy and i packed up the trusty haines and headed out from wello about 4.30pm thursday arvo( yesterday as i right this) and bumped our way over to the northern side of St helena. The trip started poorly with the old man forgetting he put the late model commodore keys in his short pockets ( this would prove to be be a set back later in the evening!)Key tag got wet!Anyhow we are in the boat so let's worry about it when we get back, right let's go. We are going out thru the leads when the left turn part of steering decides to pack it in, only right turn and just a little left!! Once again figured we were in the boat and only going in a straight line anyway let's go!

Buy now after watching the barometer fall all day , the northerly blowing slight to fresh thought the chances of catching fish were slim at best.So we park up just on the shallows (St Helena )and let loose with the chicken frames and necks for berley.Trusty prawn and 5/0 bugger all weight.Sat there for 20 minutes not much on offer and then whamo. Both hooked up on squire, bream ,finger mark and marwoong from 5.30 till just after dark. Then some one farted because we couldn't loose the bait if we thru it over the side!

Decided the trawlers starting work in the area had spooked our fun or an act of god had occured , so we headed home with a quick sit at hybers.Still no interest, not even a bite. Needless to say we got to the ramp and the keys don't work.

I would love to know what changed because my 5/0 was getting punched clean thru the top lip of all these fish no matter what size , they were really on the chew!! [img size=480]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/268.jpg

Don't fish there as often as i would like ( does anyone) The haines is a 16ft deep V really only good for two fisherman , helps if ya like each others company (not so squeezey). Here is the marwoong , looked it up today book say's slatey or blubberlip bream? Anyway will get my fish measurer next trip to the shop !

Last try , dad has the squire so no pics sorry! Thru heaps back as we only want a feed, I caught a nice 35cm finger mark but still not enough for a feed once ya fillet it.What is the legal size on finger mark and do they taste anything like sea perch?Pic attached i hope! Wont be finger mark, although a lot of people call them that. Finger mark are further up north. The fish you are referring to would be a moses perch. They also have the dot on their side like a fingermark.

Legal limit is only 25cm. But dont keep them at that size as its not much of a fillet. 35cm should be good though. They taste very good.
