Harry's Snapper 9/2/08

Had no cricket on today, so we got to go out into the bay for the full day:)

Got up at 5am to be at the boat ramp by around 6:30am. As we were readying the boat, we found that we had forgotten our Sounder/GPS:( Bugger!!! Oh well, there'll be plenty of other boats to tell us where Harry Atkinsen's reef is:) When we got there, there were about 20 boats parked on top of it.

At the first spot we stopped at, I put a big bait out with a wire trace for a Shark. 5mins later, it went off and it was pretty big and fast. But after about 45secs of fighting it, my knot broke at the main line-leader join (albright). That's the first time that has ever happened to me:(:(. Crap!!! it was a big fish too.

After that, we switched spots and Fraser got onto a couple of good Snapper of 44 and 38cm long:) (they're good for us:))

His next drop resulted in a big run which busted him off on the reef. Probably was a Snapper of around 50-60cm long:(

Then I got 2 big wobbies:silly:

Nothing for a long time with a few different techniques used.

We stopped at a new spot and immediatly, using a piece of dried out squid and a 6 ounce sinker, I caught a 42cm Snapper:huh: New pb:woohoo:

Then Jack got a big run which he managed to steer away from the reef and up came a 57cm Snapper:woohoo: While I was trying to get the camera for a photo, he dropped it onto my leg and three of its dorsal spines went into my leg about an inch or so. It hurt a lot;) and still does

That was it for there, so, since we had enough food for two families, we decided to try to target some big Shovellies for fun. We arrived at location and we saw some fish working the surface. YAY!!! first bit of surface action I've seen for nearly a year. They were infact 25-35cm Tailor:blink:  . We still had alot of fun catching 40 of these little guys on slugs worked through the school. They stayed in one location for a long time (so we anchored;)), surfacing for about 5 secs at a time every 2-3mins or so. If you could land a cast into the bust up before they went back down, you would get one:)

It was a fun day and probably our best result from the Bay ever:)

Pics to follow

Thanks for reading

More like it flicked itself out of my hands and propelled itself at your leg:P

 Was a bust off day huh mate:huh:

Congrats on you're new PB. You was drifting first, I got snagged up with 2 drifters 1 after the other. They were nice about it though so that helped the agro a bit:angry:

I was going to do a Steve Erwin leap onto another boat when they drifted past about 4-5 meters away and the clown casted strait at my 8 year old, missing her buy a meter. I gave him the  :angry::angry: gunna kill ya look, when he got about 5 meters past us he desided to revearse back away from our boat:S

You realy got to wonder what people are thinking at times. Sorry dude I used your post for my bitch:blush:

Anyways great fishing out there today, Do you have a AFO sticker on your boat? Did the fish that smoked you have insane power? Gain on them in the start of the fight and then they just power down into snags? When it was happening to me there was no typical Snapper head shakes. Cod maybe?

Don't worry, there were plenty of idiots out there today. One guy caught another guys anchor rope and thought he had a Shark:lol:

We have got stickers (got them during the classic:blush:), we just havn't got around to putting them on yet. I'll do it tomorrow:)

The fish that busted us off wasn't immovable, but it was pretty big. Could have been a Cod as well, there weren't too many head shakes:S

Top work. What did ya get the taylor on? I had no cricket either, it was washed out, cj greenfeild's pitch was like mud, dont tell me you were in the opposition team :P. good snapps mate.

I got mine on a gillies Pilchard, around 5cm's long, Jack got his on a similar lure (some other sort of gillies) and Fraser got his on a Spanyid Sniper (around 80mm's long. They weren't too fussy. One coughed up some white bait about 4cm's long which made me surprised they took the big sniper without hesitation. We'd often hook and drop 3 or 4 in one cast before hooking solidly.

However, they only took lures that had some blue on them. They didn't want a small green Snanyid Raider at all.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, we snagged a huge tyre on our anchor. This took a while to get up:silly: . It was about a 1.3-4m diameter tyre. Didn't have much coralline life on it though. I don't know why Snapper and other reefies like it down there:S

This was about 10secs after it happened. Alot of blood:silly: [img size=500]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/PICT0006_AFO-b07e2da1e05706d3b4ee614a78097214.jpg

Good report guys. Some nice rewards there:woohoo:

Looks like you're laying down in that pic. Did you pass out ?

Apart from that and the number of boats sounds like a great way to spend the day.

so did you say ouch ooh bother me that rather hurts :P

If it were translated, it might sound something like that:silly:

Was more like "Ahhhh, #*$%. God!!!....." Then after 20secs or so , it was more like "god that hurts"... then it was like "you idiot jack!!!"

The reaction had a few stages:lol:

Ellicat: nah, not that weak:P I was just sitting down in the chair and twisted my leg to get it in the shot better. Then I put it over board to wash off the blood:blink:

I've got 3 dark purple holes in my leg now

 aN OPTICAL ILLUSION. i SEE IT NOW, BUT LOOKED LIKE YOU ($^&$*capslock) were laying flat

You cursing at Jack would have been appropriate just for wearing those shorts. The shorts look like a skirt in the pic (can't see any separation)  :silly:   (Just jokes)

It's all good fun as long as you don't get a phobia about fishing next to him LOL
