Mourning Lure Loss

Right-ho, went back to my favourite spots around the river to finally meet my density and appear in the Spurious-Mail on Monday having made history with the largest bream capture on record. On the advice of many members, I've recently switched from soft plastics to hard body action (it even sounds zzzexy!) looking to get some. After my last couple of outings (see Teneriffe Bream reports) - I have landed pike, squire, estuary cod by the bucket, grinners, flathead, toads!, tarwhine and a trevally on my new sx-48s. No bream though.

I added to the collection today with a whiting near Teneriffe which is almost AS BIG AS THE SX48. I'd love to post about the hard fought tussle as it streaked away into the snags, whereby I had to lock up the drag with my trusty pliers and start praying the leader wouldn't fray and that my knots were spit-tied to perfection, but I can't.

To make matters worse, as I was flicking around about a meter out from the rockwall - KAPOW! something's struck, almost doubled over my 1-3kg flick stick and busted me off against a pylon. Everything's gone. My first ever hardbody lost. When my heart stopped thumping I think I actually saw little angel dollar signs floating off into heaven just like a cartoon.

What gives? I'm close to going back to my squidgie collection, because at least the cost of losses SEEMS less - losing more kit over more trips.

Any advice appreciated - esp on getting my own back against bust offs. Should I upgrade my leader? (4lb fireline main, 6lb mustad leader - 80cm or so). [img size=500]http://www.australianfishing.com.au/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/sx483.jpg

stuff like that happens, i remember the first time i lost and sx40, got a 66cm flattie snaped the leader in the net, thought oh ok ill get the lure back once i've measured it... after the measure, fish goes back in the water and then i realise oh god my lure while watching this big lizard swim away, and then lost another one that day to a snag

but hey its part of fishing, you will eventually accumulate a large enough collection that it wont be such a big deal losing a lure

I agree with the above comments. Loosing lures sucks for a while but it soon becomes part of fishing :P

Also in regards to the bust off, look you can use heavier leader, but sometimes you are going to loose. Thats why its sports fishing. You cant predict every oyster, sharp rock etc that will make whatever weight leader you use redundant.
