It's a Whiptail:)

Good eating when they're bigger and very good bait either as a livie or flesh bait

None that I know of:)

Did a full check (QLD rules) and there is none. But for food, anything under 23cm (ie Whiting size) is a bit pointless.

That is a Tripod Fish (seriously:silly:)

Weird little things. I've only ever caught one.

First one is a:

Blue-faced Whiptail (Pentapodus paradiseus)

Second one is a :

Yellowfin Tripodfish (Tripodichthys angustifrons)

Mate get used to catching those tripod fish, they are in plague numbers in the passage at times. once they move in I find its is best to move locations

Are tripod fish also "Sea Toads"?

When I was fishing with Nabs and Daniel we got 4 on lures in one spot before quickly moving on.

Nah. The Tripodfish have got a Leather-Jacket-like spine on the dorsal and both ventral fins. Hence the name Tripodfish

We got a tonne of them today.

Really nice looking fish, some were big too.

If only i new they made good live bait.

there is another tripod fish that lives in real deep water, it has the spikes all pointing downwards and stands on the bottom with them

trawlers pick them up sometimes when working deep

wierd critter allright and not just in looks. they have both male and female sex organs and can breed with themselves

haha that's awesome, for a predatory fish thats food on stilts.
