green prawns for bait

I made a comment a while back about how much cheaper it is to use green prawns from Woolies etc than it is to buy frozen prawn in bait packets. Comment still stands, but make sure you are using Austrlaian green prawns - see this article

Its a bit scary that. I've seen plenty of photos of major fish kills and the like in the past. Makes you wonder what causes some of them:dry:

I just rang the local WW and they had green prawns for $15.97 / kg and they only had imported green prawns ...

Then I rang Charltons Tackle and He had a 400 gram block of local prawns for $4.50 ($11.25 / kg)

I think after reading that link it's a very good idea for us all to ensure that the prawns we use are local... if the natural prawn population die so do the fish...

Tweed Bait website says they only use local products...

the fish market at rocklea local green prawns that are at there use by date for human consumption frozen in half kilo lots for bait at $6 per kilo
