Ok Fellas....It's on! A night yak attack!

Since my last night adventure scored a few nice Bream, as promised I want to organise a night yak this Thursday launching from Balimba boat ramp around 4pm. Depending on weather/wind and tide we can head up river or down but hopefully we can make it over to my new spot along the Teneriffe Wharfs. After my last prowl I have been doing some investigating and my sources tell me that there are threadies, Bream, Cod and some bully's to be had along that stretch some bring your rigs and lets go hunting!

Pack some sanga's and drinks, bring some warm clothing and plenty of lighting to make sure that you are seen on the water at night.

For anyone who is a little concerned (pussy whipped!) the boats that are moored along the river provide plenty of protection from city cats and other boats. It's the main crossing over to Teneriffe that you have to up the speed and look out for other vessels that might run one down but I did not have a problem last time.

It would be awesome if there are a few of us and we will definitely find a few new spots to explore......

Who is in?

Angus! Not a problem....I will probably launch between 4-5pm but just hang around the area and wait for you guys.

I will PM my Mobile to you and if/when you launch just give me a call I keep my mobile in a waterproof case attached.

Just to let anyone who wants to come along but can only get there latter it's not a prob.....I/we will only be a short paddle up or down the river depending on tide/weather etc...

So if you can only make it no problemo...I would say that I will only launch around the 5-6pm mark as most people have to leave work etc. Besides I am heading up to Noosa on Friday morning to fish Laguna bay so it will be a cruisy one this time... just would like to catch up for a meet and greet and a fish!

Brisbane river has special rules for competition row boats after the ferry / rowboat crash a couple of years ago. For other craft I am pretty sure it is still unregistered craft that are paddle powered only need a light ready to display if necessary.

I'd be running the 360deg light and carrying a good dolphin torch you can way at an approaching boat if it is getting to close.

Sorry, Feral is right: "Sailboats less than seven metres and vessels under oars must have a torch or lantern showing a white light ready to display in time to prevent a collision."

I think it is best to have a 360 degree white light as well though. That way it's always on in case a boat sneaks up on ya.

I agree, a 360degree light is best, I carry a dolphin light as well as a LED head lamp that is blinding to look into. If I hear you coming and point my head at you, you will know i am there.

I think one issue is that many yakkers want to avoid the cost associated with a boat, so the lights are an easy thing to do without.

I have often wondered if one of those aresol cans with the horn on them would be waterproof? I was thinking of having one as a warning for boats if desperate

Liquor: I, and others I Know didn't get a yak because it's cheap.

My next yak fully fitted out will be over $3000 AUD at retail pricing in Aus.

It's (in my opinion) far more fun and enjoyable in a yak, you can sneak into places you cant with a tinny. We can also go to just about any place your average tinny will go. Can launch off a surf beach with no worries, go offshore, go around the bay, go in skinny, shallow waters.

Plus, a 360 degree light is only like $30 max. IMO due to how cheap they are, there's no reason to not have one if you paddle at night.

i became interested because they are cheaper, my budget was around $1500! I have since more than doubled that:P

Price is a big influence, and yes, i should spend the money on lights, but there are so many great lures i have yet to try.....

I will be getting a new light when I hook up my new sounder, I have the battery and the electric outboard, so a light wont really hit the budget (just dont tell the missus!)

There are some good ideas for lights too, i got some for my dad for $20 on ebay.

$5.50 here!'>http://cgi.ebay.com.au/12V-36-LED-FOLD-DOWN-Navigation-Stern-Anchor-Light-BOAT_W0QQitemZ190214661326QQihZ009QQcategoryZ102814QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
