Just an idea????

Hey i have an idea based on the it's on thread....starting with the letter A .....then moving through the alphabet....tell your story about a fish u have caught beginning with that letter...let's see how far it goes! should be some good stories in this !!!! i'll start with Atlantic salmon.Back in my home state of Tasmania i went fishing to a lake called meadowbank dam....it had 100 , 10 kg's plus atlantic salmon released into it.One of the local radio stations had a competition if you could catch the salmon that had been tagged u got a $3000 gift voucher to spend at the compleat angler fishing wearhouse. So with this info on board my uncle and i headed up there after a week (hearing the tagged fish had not been caught) , we got there around 6 am ...in may (bit chilly i can tell you). but we had to get a piece of this action , we fished ALL day covered about 10 k'lms in walking and every lure, fly , and bait we had .....and caught nothing.....BUT on our return to the 4x4 my uncle spotted a deadline someone had set.So doing what we always did he pulled it with every intention of putting it in the bin at the car park , (as we always did , not sporting fishing and all ) when he says to me "there's something on this"....And yes it was a 10 kilo plus atlantic salmon with a beautiful red tag in it.....Now not sure what others opinions of what to do with this fish would be....I'm proud to say my uncle released it knowing that he never caught it in the spirit of the game....But i have to be honest isn't that the true meaning of fishing....It's all about us against them...but what makes it always better is knowing the fish u catch is done with excitement of knowing u had to beat it fair and square.....Long story i know , but it would be great to hear other fishing moments in this way ;)

The first barramundi i caught by casting a hardbody lure (killalure) was when i was about 12yo in the saltwater side of Aplins weir, Townsville.

It was just after some floods and they where really on the chew in the middle of the day.

It was great.

My first mundi about 40cm and taildancing like a b-boy in a nightclub.

Then my 12yo obsessed fishermate came over, snatched the rod out of my hands and finished the fight, telling me "give it here man, it's my rod".

Well, that tore me up and scarred me for life.

Too the point now, If i hook up and my rod is in the holder, l'll fight anyone and everyone to get to it.

If anyone ever wants to have a chop at the title!

THE FISH IS MINE>>>>>>>>>

Aaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!

lmao

I didn't get it, but my Brother once caught a Catfish (WOW:lol:) and as he was trying to remove the hook from it, he slipped and one of the spines went a good inch into his thumb, parallel to the bone. He was in excruciating pain, but he couldn't remove the spine due to the barbs on it. He eventually had to put it between his feet and pull upwards. Managed to get it out after a lot of force was applied:lol:

my first dogtooth tuna - fishing off the swains reefs, jigging in about 60m of water, hit like a freight train and peeled off about 300m of line before i knew what was happening. finally got it up to the boat after a 20 min battle, went 41kg. i enquired as to why they are called dogtooth and the decky showed me - only to have the fish then bite him on the leg.

(btw - there may be a bit of a wait on the letter "i". all i can think of is iodine bream?)

What the hell is "It"

Perhaps?

aussie native, freshwater, grows to 70cm,only found in rivers that flow into the gulf of carpenteria. also known as a nursery fish

the male has a wierd hook and pouch setup on the top of its head into which the female lays the eggs and the male incubates them

Well, since nobody's said anything on "H", I'll do one, but I didn't actually catch anything:blush: Just a cool thing to watch.

We were up in weipa, fishing off Duyfken Point I think, and we were watching some big fish smash some ait fish. Then we saw a huge Herring (Wolf Herring I think) that was about 60cm or so, jump out of the water in huge jumps. It kept jumping higher and hanging in the air longer. Then, it did one huge jump about 1.5m's nearly straight up. Just before it hit the water, a huge Spanniad smashed it. Was pretty cool to watchB)

In kununurra WA i used to fish for javelin fish with tiny plastics and 2lb line. great fun, they grab air and all sorts of stuff. was quite funny when i worked at the barra farm on lake argyle they used to shoot water at their reflections in your sunnies if you got too close to the water.
