Custom Kayak Trailer?

Angus

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone.

I am looking to get a trailer for my car that can carry at least for Kayaks.

This is so:

a: I can take more kayaks to events and loan them to people.

b: Quite fankly lifting two pro fish yaks (or Espri's for that matter) from the grounf to the racks on my x-trail is very difficult.

Does anyone know if I could get something like this pre made?

Or would it be a custom job?

If so does anyone have any ideas where I could get a quote?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Angus

Should be pretty easy to get something like dogfish'd setup. It is just a standard box trailer with a double rack on it. I reckon you would get out of it for about $1100 ish.

Only one thing to mention though is that the top rack will still be the same height as the car roughly. So if you could get some kind of roller for the back bar it would be a much more user friendly setup. So you don't have to lift too high.

Just get a 6x4 or 7x4/5 box trailer, Put a ladder rack type bar on it, then do another row below, would carry 4 yaks and gear in the trailer, and if u were nifty could make it bolted on so u could take it off to use the trailer for other things.

Something like this would be the go, with a box trailer underneath.

Try giving mark at J Thomas And Sons a ring for trailer parts. They have a good range of parts and reasonable prices with good service. Ph 3281 4044

You should be able to put together a nice trailer to suit your needs for around the 7 to 800 mark if you make it yourself.

I have put together a few bike trailers for friends for around the $550 which was a lot cheaper than the shops wanting $1200 for them.

hi all,

if you built a 10 x 8 shallow box trailer with those racks on top maybe...

if you do build one, my advice would be to have it gal dipped and all the associated parts as well... well worth the money for no rust worries, am aware the trailer wont be getting wet much but still worth it i reckon...had mine dipped from new 3 yrs ago and its still great..

G'day Angus, sorry I missed this post. I cart my yaks around on the humble 6x4 box trailer. I just knocked up some simple framework and added some yaks racks, perfect for me and cheap as well. I also have room to stack a couple of Fish Bandits or the MiniX underneath, or even better some camping gear. I post up some pics, hope they help.

Regards

i have access to a heavy duty mig. i dont have room at my house though so if every one wants to get together some where it will be easiest, will need a bit of room and power i dont have any power saws or grinders, so some one with them would be good.
