Hey guys i know this has nothing to do with fishing but if anyone could help thatd be great.

Pretty much im doing my maths assignemnt. This involves me choosing 2 cars, one a late model used car and the other an older classic/collectable car.

What i need to do is basically compare the costs of these different cars in these catergories Service Costs, Running Costs (ie fuel per km), Registration Costs and Insurance Costs

The two cars i have chosen to do are

Late model used car

Daewoo Kalos 5sp Manual 1.5Litre (yes i know its girly but mum has the same car so its easier)

Older Classic/Collectabe Car

1971 MG B MK II Roadster 1800CC manual

so far i have called K Mart tyre and auto and asked a few questions.

Service Costs

MG= $199 full service

Daewoo= 80000km service $427 what i was looking for was just a full service

Petrol

MG= the guys best guess was 8-8.2L per 100km

Daewoo= from 30L mum reckons she gets about 370km so that works out to be about 8.13L per 100km

Registration

wouldnt have a clue any ideas for each??

Insurance

same again any idea for full comprehensive for a uni student?

if you guys have any info that would save me rining a thousand places asking all sorts of questions that would be great.

Thanks

insurance quotes can be done in about 5 minutes over the net for either car.

also, as far as rego goes, it should be very similar if not exactly the same as well. they are both 4cyl cars and rego is based on # cylinders. it is the same amount for me to register my new prado as my old falcon.

lol, as a current uni student, my suggestion is

1,if no reference's needed choose very very rare cars so that ur tutor cannot vertify ur data

2, if reference's needed, go for older model holdens for easy-to-obtain data.

3, spend more time in calculation rather than gathering data as long as it's not a research related subject.

4, finish it in 2hrs so that it's not gonna take over ur fishing time!

Pick anything but the G parts very expensive as only one mob has them and they are as reliable as a two bob watch.

All of the older cars have higher serviceing costs as they have service intervals of 1000 miles and all the suspension and steering linkages have to be greased and at around 50,000 miles the king pins and ball joints usually need replacing.

Do not forget to factor in the additional running costs of the older cars. They are designed to run on leaded fuel so you have to include additives to compensate.

Cheers

Ray
