Neoprene Waders?

Can anyone please explain the pro's and con's of neoprene waders.

Are they a special crushed neoprene that actually keeps you dry or are they meant to be a snug fit that allows you to be wet but warm?

In what circumstances would you require neoprene waders or pvc waders?

The only thing i can think of (and this is a far out guess), is perhaps it's safer to wear neoprene in the surf because the outward rip could possibly fill pvc waders and suck you out to sea.

Whereas neoprene would not hold water in such a parachute way.

That's just something i dreamed up guys.

I'd love to know the facts if anyone knows.

As I understand it the neoprene will let moisture out but not in. At least that's what memory tells me from when I was researching it a few years ago.

With the PVC ones you have to make sure your jatz crackers are positioned correctly when going in that deep or they end up like what Mr Whippy sprinkles on a soft serve LOL.

The other difference is Neoprene ones are (were) about 5 times the price of the PVC.

It would be like having a shower with a raincoat on (PVC) or having a shower with your shavecoat on (neoprene)

PVC is waterproof so you will stay dry and snug, neoprene is wetsuit material and is desgined to let water in and then hold a small film of water against the skin. THis water heats up to your body temp and keeps you warm. Ofcourse you can accellerate this heating somewhat in a certain way.

I have never seen neoprene waders, but if they are super ex'y in price then look at some wetsuit longjohns or an old steamer and cut the top half off.

pvc waders not as comfortable when you pee in them.;)

also pvc waders safer in the surf you just need to tighten your bait/rod holder belt tight so that a pocket of air is trapped in you legs. you will then float when you are taken out to see. (uside down):silly:

Actually this is quite nasty I saw an old dude nearly drown a few years back because of it. Hence you should always carry a knife when wearing them.:(

You could always get a full body wetsuit and wear goggles and snorkel etc. i would do that for a laugh has given me ideas for next fraser trip actually.:woohoo:

Thanks guys.

A couple of good laughs right there. lmfao

I'm not looking at getting a pair (in fact i already have two wetsuits worth $600 each).

Mojiko has just released neoprene waders and i needed some product knowledge.

In my Logan store, we stock Stearns pvc which retail at $69.99.

Stearns also have a neoprene which retails at $199.99.

The new Mojiko neoprene retails at $99.99.

They look the part too!
