Hi All

Been doing this fishing/yakking thing a few months now and I would like to find a good snapper spot. I am all up for fishing in the Brisbane river but I don't think I will be eating any fish that come out of it....(just for thi moment in time)

Can anyone recommend some good spots down or up the coast?

Cheers

SNAPPER! Where can I find em?

in the water??? :P sorry real answer now...

if you are yaking, cook island off fingal head is worth a look. only about 400m across there, some of it is green zone, outside of them there is some great bottom fishing. also can get good tailor, mackeral, kingies etc here on livies. there are some rocks about 300-400m offshore from hastings point which don't fish too bad either. i have trolled past them on my surf ski before, caught some quality spotties and tailor, good bottom structure as well. my mate spears there often and comes home with a good feed of snapper, sweetlip and mackeral most times.

closer to home, st helena and green would be the two closest options, they fish ok at times, pretty high traffic on both though. a paddle out from cape moreton or point lookout on the islands could be highly productive as well.

hope this helps a bit...

Ok Ok ...I left myself open to a good shoe'ing!

Ok so if fishing in the river or Bay what bait is best and rig set up?

Based on my Hamilton trip I will be using bait fishing a bit more so pillie's and squid.

I am keen to try some live bait to.

Any advice on specific spots around the mouth and best baits to use.....I am keen for a feed!

Batty

The rock wall at the mouth of the river is a good producer. Especially the side exposed to moreton bay, not inside the river.

Also, the beacon off Bribie island produces alot, especially on plastics (and especially for kayakers like Lee):)

i know one guy that goes near fishermans island and gets aload of whiting then moves further out just out of the mouth and bags out on good size squire/snapper in like a hour or so. still trying to organise to go so can find out the spots.

Yeah, That is a good article.

By the way did anyone recognise the bloke on the cover, sitting in the Hobie & holding the bass.

Yeah bloody ugly looking little runt, I've heard a few things about him.

Sorry Schultzy I had to stir.:P Bloody nice Bass by young Tony long tail:woohoo: The apple never falls far from the tree, does it mate. Oh and he's a sexy beast also:kiss:

  • 7 months later...

I've always been most successful in the yak when targeting snapper/squire. Wello Point before sunrise trolling bright blue lures in 4 metres of water works well and Scarborough off Queens Beach on sunset in 6-8 metres of water with big sp's usually gets me a feed. When you thinking of going out?
