i just bought a shimano tld 30 two speed wondering what kind of line to buy. most likly to fish for snapper or reef fish at the barwon banks in about 6 weeks time on charter for four days.

50lb braid would be my choice. and there are so many brands about these days it's hard to recommend one! i think i have about 4 different types on my reels at the moment!

Berkley Whiplash is one of the more popular choices.

Very thin for it's breaking strain and little if any stretch, comes in 300m spools and quite well priced. It is a "braid" type product, so you may have issues thumbing the line on to the spool, very sharp.

Platypus Lo stretch Mono is also very popular. Being a mono you have no knot issues, and it has reduced stretch and diam V standard Mono.

MATE if I was to fish the banks, reefs and wrecks, Iwould leave the TLD30 at home, you don't need to go overboard with your gear as it is quite shallow on top of the reef anyway 36mtrs. If you want to try out your new reel,i'd suggest you speak to john gooding ;outlaw charters ; or john palermo so they can put you onto some amberjacks, yellowtail kingies. even better if you have a mate with a boat and fish just west of square patch just off the ledge and hang on. as far as line goes, from what I can gather you bought the TLD30 to catch really good fish, myself I would go nothing lighter than 60lb tuff line, that way it gives you a realistic 10kg of drag if you need it without any dramas. I also would not go under 100lb leader, big fish don't worry about leaders, they just want a easy feed.good luck & have fun.
