Tilapia in the Brisbane river

Caught one in my cast net this arvo (20cm)in the river when I was trying for a few prawns(killed it).

Fresh or salt I am not sure but the fish was fit enough obviously out and about with all the fresh.

I didn't think the Brisbane river had Tilapia?

Yeah there is a population

Obviosuly not in the extreme cases as some of the other locations, but they're there.

Yeap I have seen a few caught from Colleges and some real big ones under the dam wall at Big W.

There used to be so many before that cold snap six months ago that I used to sight fish them with plastics below the Mt. Crosby Wier! Oh, and I've caught some stonking big guys below the Wivenhoe Spillway on spinnerbaits!

I sure that was 400 m down stream of the Wier PF

I have caught some monstors in full or very close to full salt in the south pine river there is heaps of them in the upperreaches of the south pine.

In oxley creek mouth opening, casting for some bait..

lets hope the bullies get the better of these buggers down that far...

I bet there is loads way up the creek then. I was expecting you say to say Colleges or something. Shame.

I have read that they can surrvive salinity levels that are common in the mouth of the river. So really it could be assumed that they could have easily populated any tributary of the Brisbane River.
